James Singleton close to signing deal with Mavericks;

Post#1 » by JapanAir21 » Tue Jul 8, 2008 10:23 pm

Singleton close to deal

Among the other players to practice Monday were free-agent rookies Reggie Williams and Derrick Low. NBA vet James Singleton, who played two seasons for the LA Clippers before heading overseas, is close to signing a guaranteed contract for next season.

The 6-8 forward was part of the rotation with the Clips in 2005-06, averaging 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 12.8 minutes. Singleton, a solid defender, is expected to provide depth at both forward spots.

Man, we're not leaving many open roster spots for any new key role-players, unless Green and Singleton are the keys to success.

If this is a 14th,15th man than ok. However if he is in the 12 man rotation than the Mavs are totally blind to their roster situation.

I have seen some of his clips on you tube but don't remember him on the clippers.
He seems like he will be pretty good but his is going to limit the ability for R. Terry
to make the team and i really like R. Terry.
WE NEED A STARTING 2!!!

Unless we can snag Artest in a trade or Childress after ATL maxes J Smith out with the MLE we will likely see Green and Foster which is cool I guess. korolev and RAT are my selection at SF behind Howard but maybe the MBT knows something I do not. Sow at C/PF and if Pop's does good in SL he's the 3rd PF. Williams at 3rd string SG would be cool if we can't get any other deals done.

I don't really understand this. I'd rather see Reyshawn Terry or Shan Foster make the team. At the least we could wait and see how he plays this summer before giving him a roster spot.

Is it possible in the NBA to sign a player to a one year contract that is not guaranteed? If so, that would prevent another team from signing him now and give the Mavs time to evaluate him in Summer League and cut him later if he doesn't make the roster. Possible?

there has to be an unguaranteed contract during the offseason/training camp/preseason for some players...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Yahoo! Sports wrote:A source close to the negotiations told Sporting News that the Dallas Mavericks will sign forward James Singleton to a guaranteed one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum. There are paperwork issues holding up the deal, but the source says Dallas will sign Singleton, who is playing for the Mavs’ summer league team, in the coming days.

Singleton opted out of a contract with his Spanish League team, where he played last year after spending the two previous seasons as a reserve with the Clippers. He averaged 2.6 points in 112 games with L.A.

Looks like it's going to be guaranteed.
