PG difference beteween this year and last

Post#1 » by joew8302 » Wed Jul 9, 2008 8:47 pm

Last year our PG's were:

Tinsley/Diener/Daniels/Owens

This year our depth chat will be

Ford/Jack/Diener

To me this is an unbelievable improvement. Our PG play of late has killed us not only on offense but defense. Jamal shot us out of many games, still hasn't figured out what a good shot was, loafed on defense and made some REALLY dumb decisions with the ball. Diener was a guy who took care of the ball, but just is not the athlete to really play 20 minutes a game at point if he isn't shooting well, and he struggled shooting much of last year.

With Ford I expect much better perimeter defense and more sound decisions in terms of playmaking. Jack will be able to shoot the midrange shot, and set a good tempo for the team. Diener will have a better role with this group as well IMO.

I think this post from count55 is also very useful here in this thread:

count55 wrote:The PG's who have played for the Pacers (besides Jamaal) since 2000:

Travis Best
Tyus Edney
Kevin Ollie
Jamison Brewer
Erick Strickland
Tim Hardaway (decrepit version)
Anthony Johnson
Kenny Anderson (decrepit version)
Eddie Gill
Sarunas Jasikevicius
Darrell Armstrong (decrepit version)
Orien Greene
Keith McLeod
Travis Diener
Andre Owens
Flip Murray

If he can contribute a la Travis or Anthony Johnson in a bench role, I think we're pleased. I'm pretty sure he'll just have to avoid running over TJ or Danny with his car to be an upgrade on most of the rest of them.

Our PG rotation this year is better than anything most of us have seen since Mark Jackson was on this roster and leading this team at the PG spot.

I had never looked at in that context before. I obviously knew Ford was an upgrade but that is startling. He is easily better than any of the PGs we had ever gotten our hands on since 2000. I just pray he stays healthy.

What?!? TJ Ford has nothing on Jamison Brewer.
