Coaches on the Hot Seat for the 08/09 Season?

Post#1 » by tylero87 » Wed Jul 9, 2008 9:52 pm

I'll start with the East:

Mike Brown: Good defensive minded coach, seems to have respect of players but another early exit in the playoffs with arguably the best player in the game could mean his job, IMO.

Eddie Jordan: The longest tenured coach in the East may be out of a job if he can't get his team past the first round. With Arenas, Butler, and Jamison as well as some young talent in Blatche and Young we should expect more from the Wiz.

Stan Van Gundy: There is a coach out there that will get Howard to the NBA finals, whether or not it's Van Gundy remains to be seen. I don't think he'll be out of a job this season, granted the Magic don't tank; but you gotta think there are coaches just itching to work with D12.

Lawrence Frank: This is my pick for coach most likely to lose his job in the east. The Nets are in rebuilding mode but if the Nets struggle at the beginning of the season, Frank will be out before the All Star break.

Sam Mitchell: Coach of the year two years ago, since then he's been mediocre. Tons of talent on the Raptors team but Mitchell's fast paced shooting style doesn't win games in the playoffs.

Now the West:

George Karl: Now IMO Karl is the last thing wrong with the Nuggets. The group of players Denver has are a bunch of me first players and it shows when they play. On paper they have the best starting 5 but don't have the chemistry. If the Nuggets don't clean house a shake up the players, Karl could be the one who gets the axe.

Marc Ivaroni: Memphis, nuff said.

Reggie Theus: Kings seem to be right there as far as being in contention but another so so year will see Sac towns attendance drop again, as well as support for their coach.

Randy Whittman: Like Memphis this team has just got too far to go, I doubt the fire Randy on account of the number of coaches the Wolves have gone through recently. Maybe the should try and get Flip back.

Stan Van Gundy is probably the last person on the hot seat. You fail.

Nate McMillan, if the Blazers don't make the playoffs.

He stated after the 07-08 campaign was over that our goal for next year is 50 wins and playoffs. If we miss out on the playoffs, barring major injuries, then I think he will start feeling some heat. 4 years with us and no playoffs, no more excuses. I don't care how young we are.

Ya....Stan The Man isn't even close to being on the hott seat

In his 1st year he leads the Magic to a 50-plus win season & they got out of the first round for the 1st time in over a decade! Stan's job is very safe right now.....

How Lawrence Frank still has a job baffles me.

All I'm saying is it happens. Now I think Stan is the safest coach on my list but Jeff his brother lead Houston to the playoffs something like 4 years in a row and he had superstars in McGrady and Yao. However not being able to get it done in the playoffs cost him his job. I'm not saying Stan is close to losing his job but if the Magic can't get it done in the next couple years (Detroit and Boston are getting older) they may bring in someone who can get them to that next level.

Making the playoffs every year besides last year where Kidd bolted might do that to you . I mean Eddie Jordan also still has his Job and he never got out of the second round as well.

Btw i doubt Franks fired this season . The expectations will be low anyway so there's no need to throw out money for an other coach that won't get the team very far anyway.

Dude stop talking out of ur ass. Stan Van Gundy is not on the hot seat. If we use your logic then every coach in the league is in the hot seat.

Theus is in no way on the hot seat. He did a great job last year for somebody that had never coached in the NBA before. Many had us as bottom feeders in the league, but we were +.500 with Ron in the lineup. He has done a fine job for the most part, given his experience and the talent around him.

I would say Mike Brown for sure. Why? Because the Cavs won't be able to surround LeBron with a decent, capable roster and they'll need a scapegoat.

Add Phil Jackson in there. The dude is stubborn guy that refuses to believe defense wins championships and continues to play crappy players.

I voted for George Karl.

Reason being: I'm really not sure how he didn't get fired at the end of this last season. In typical Karl fashion he has worn out his welcome. It is only a matter of time.

It should probably be Karl but I can see Mitchell getting canned if the JO thing doesn't work out. Michael Curry will have to perform for the Pistons or I think he'll be out pretty quick.

Wow, so you blaming Phil for losing in the Finals now, huh? Who made your team to overachieve every single season since his second coming?
