Kelenna Azubuike?
isnt he a free agent? or did the warriors sign him.
if hes a free agent then we should go after him he could be good for the sg.

Sure, why not. Aggressiveness off the bench, at the right price, of course.

Bring him down!
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

We should raid the entire GS roster. They have 5 guys that are free agents. I don't know if any of them have signed yet.
Azubuike - Restricted - SG
Barnes - Unrestricted - SG
Biedrins - Restricted - PF
Ellis - Restricted - SG
Pietrus - Unrestricted - SF
I'd love to see any of the SGs as a Maverick. They would start immediately over Terry.

Pietrus is a member of the Magic now. Azubuike is our best and least expensive bet.

Buike is no longer Restricted, he opted out, he is UFA.

It doesn't matter that he opted out. He's still restricted.

Golden State
Kelenna Azubuike Player Option
Matt Barnes Unrestricted FA
Andris Biedrins Restricted FA
Austin Croshere Unrestricted FA
Baron Davis Early Term. Option
Monta Ellis Restricted FA
Patrick O'Bryant Unrestricted FA
Mickael Pietrus Unrestricted FA
http://www.nba.com/mavericks/news/Free_ ... 63008.html
on that website it says that he clearly has a players option so i guess GS cant match an offer sheet
he wud look great in a maverick uniform and probably cud be a solid 2 guard for at least 2 years until the bron and bosh summer

We can't sign him unless he will play for the minimum which he would not. So the only way to make this work would be a sign and trade with G.S. I am not saying I am against it but we can not use any of our MLE since we quick wisely (NOT) used our entire MLE on Diop.

^Yep.
And I doubt GS is willing to help us out unless we give Bass for him. I doubt he's worth that.

Re: Kelenna Azubuike?
I'm laughing at every, single, person, who has said using the full MLE on Diop was a mistake. It really defies all wisdom that it was a mistake.
1. The Mavs had 1 (one) (uno) (singular) NBA caliber center on the team.
2. The Mavs had only the MLE to work with.
3. The FA group for centers was (and always is) woefully shallow. Meaning it was Diop or some Mbenga-esque player who should NOT see significant minutes on any team looking to do anything in the west.
Basically, it came down to a need (center) vs. a want (shooting guard). The front office made the correct decision and went with what the team needed rather than the luxury.
Look at it this way, the starting lineup, more than likely, will look something like this:
PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Jason Terry
SF: Josh Howard
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Erick Dampier
You're looking for a player that you can add, with the MLE, that can improve upon that starting line up. Personally, I don't think there was a single one out there that would come to Dallas for the MLE, and be an upgrade over any of those guys. The only potential guy is James Posey, but I take Terry over him, because Posey at his best is a gritty defender, a acceptable offensive player, but he's not a starter quality player. So if you accept that there is no player that can come in and start for the Mavs for the MLE (which would have been pathetic). Then you have to go to the second level.
PG: Jason Kidd/JJ Barea
SG: Jason Terry/Antoine Wright
SF: Josh Howard/Jerry Stackhouse
PF: Dirk Nowitzki/Brandon Bass
C: Erick Dampier/
Now you're looking at a situation where you're trying to upgrade your bench by signing a player with part, or all of the MLE. I don't think there is a significant upgrade to be made over Bass. Therefore you're left upgrading over JJ Barea, Antoine Wright, Jerry Stackhouse, or a blank spot in the roster behind Erick Dampier. Considering that if you rate Diop a 6, Stackhouse a 4, Wright a 2, and Barea a 2, you'd have to sign an 8 level player at PG or SG, or a 10 level player for SF, to beat out the upgrade over a hole that Diop provides.
With that said, I would be absolutely ecstatic if the Mavs could get a S&T deal done for Azubuike.

He opted out of his player option making him a restricted FA. He is NOT an UFA, but it doesn't matter anyways since Diop took the MLE.Rand10 wrote:JapanAir21 wrote:Buike is no longer Restricted, he opted out, he is UFA.

now the one bullet donnie spoke about was shot and we got diop. ah well...
I dont think the position of sg is a want, IMO it's a need. no contender should have stack as their starting SG, or jones, or terry btw

Barnes might be the best bet.
He might end up being a minimum wage player.

The NBA doesnt live or die by the SG, I dont understand why so many are making such a huge fuss over it...the NBA Finals should be proof enough for you.
The "best basketball player on the planet" who just happens to be a SG can get stiffled by a team that simply plays defense. If we can get this team playing defense like they did in 06` we'll be in a decent position. Diop is an important peice to that recepie, play Dirk or Bass at the 5 spot is not and never will be a path to a championship. We might not have the young legs to win 67 games with our starting SG, but we do have some youth and long defenders now to at least make some noise in April.

Re: Kelenna Azubuike?
problem is, that we really have no SG at all. our best SG might be stack, which is S.A.D. he shouldnt be more than a motivator in the locker room at this point in his career, kinda NVE a few years ago. definitely he shouldnt start on a championship contending team. the alternatives: eddie jones, antoine wright, shan foster, puh-lease.
so dont tell me that we are making a big fuss over it. the "fuss" is already there. we dont need no kobe and will also never get one, but a nice SG who plays both sides of the ball decently should work wonders
