Bogut Extended--Bad news for us

Post#1 » by SCBobcat » Wed Jul 9, 2008 10:37 pm

I just saw on ESPN's ticker that the Buck extended Andrew Bogut for an additional 5 years and 72.5 million. This is the type of thing that really did not need to happen before we got EO50 signed. That's way too expensive for either Bogut or Okafor.

It's 5 year-60mm; plus 12.5 of incentives that he is going to get only after a level of performance that would make us happy to have him at 14m r year.

If I remember well, Okafor refused a similar contract (12mm per year extension); I still believ you are going to re-sign him, but a possibility is that he gets the 7mm qualifying offer and becomes unrestricted in 2009. Good luck in bringing him back!

That sounds a little better. I would say Okafor and Bogut are very comparable, and I would not be against this type of deal (with 60 million as the base guarantee) for Emeka. I just didn't want to set the value in the 70 million dollar base range.

$12.5mil in incentives?

Hmmmm.

EO50's "kicker" was worth a reported $5mil a year in the deal we put forward last year as opposed to the $2.5mil a year you mention Bogut is getting.

Interesting.

I just want to understand. So you're saying that the deal from last year that was rejected was approximately an 8M base with 5 per in incentives? If that is the case things make more sense. I never understood why he would pass on 5yr/65M with so few teams able to make a credible bid on him.
