You guys signed Roger Mason

From a Wizards fan....

-Class guy to the extreme. Character that matches with the Spurs. Really solid 3 point shooter who can play both guard positions. Wizards didn't have room with Nick Young, but a good guy who will produce.

if he's getting a decent amount of money, I'll take it..I like his game, it's just about the money..

I'll be happy with Buike+Mason..

apparently it's 7.5 for 2 years..most of the MLE..disgusting..not happy with this..

Roger Mason isn't going to significantly change this team..he doesn't give us the type of player we've been desperate for..he's a good player and I liked what I saw last year, but not for this money..

hopefully Barry for the rest of it now..

we definitely need Mahinmi and Hill to have good seasons next year..

Using most of the MLE on him isn't what I wanted this offseason...

Jeez we only have 1.85 million left on the MLE... who the hell can we sign with that?

He will do whatever you ask him to out there. He's a solid three point shooter and he can shoot from the mid range too.

He does a bit of everything. He was one of my favorite players in Washington. Good luck to him and he will prove his worth.

unfortunately I agree, it's tough to get free agents with teams throwing out 5 year deals like it's nothing. :(

Honestly, I think his role with the Spurs would not be much different from Finleys. I'm not sure if I want him starting or coming off the bench, I REALLY want Ginobilli off the bench this year, so that leaves the question "who is our starting 2 guard?" The only answer to that question that makes sense to me is Ginobilli or Finley.

*sigh* This offseason sucks.

Picking up Mason isn't a sexy move, but that doesn't mean it can't be an effective one. Yeah, it's going to seem like a let down, especially immediately on the heels of Maggette deciding he wanted the cash (which never should have been in doubt). But if Mason can hit the shots that Finley kept missing all year then this is going to work out okay.

I think with Finley basically giving us nothing as a starting SG late in our season, we needed to get younger, so, he was the position I wanted to do so to start. Why him? Well, Bowen will start no matter who we add to the team. And our centers, well, if they combine for 13ppg we are ok.

So, my question is....

Can we have Udoka or MAson start at the SG position and drop Fin? I would rather keep Barry than Fin. And I'd rather keep Manu off the bench. Then again, someone like Mason IS a scoring sparkplug off the bench-type. But not to the level of Manu who will give you 20ppg off the bench.

I think Udoka will start at SG if Fin is cut. Mason and Manu off the bench with (hopefully) Barry contributing when needed. Plus, probably Hill as our backup PG seems to be a good possibility to be able to score if nothing else. That's what I'm guessing. That's a good amount of scoring off the bench I think. Not to mention maybe someone like Mahini contributing some points off the bench, any would do good.

However...

In the playoffs, having that ZERO scoring production from the SG, SF and center positions made it tough to get off to good starts. Let's face it, defenses in the playoffs are way different. If your SG is a non threat, they can ignore them, and make it tough for Timmy and TP. If they can ignore your center and even your starting SF, again, that's easy to defend regardless how great TP and TD are. So, I think whoever starts at SG NEEDs to produce and be a real threat. Udoka is not a slasher which is the type we need I think at either the SG or SF position. I don't think he is the solution to our problem.

We're in trouble if we don't get a scoring threat in our starting unit to go with TP and TD. I don't see it happening though.

And I haven't even talked about how we haven't really addressed our number one reason for being eliminated: rebounding. Unless Mahini and Thomas are going to be counted on to help fix that this year. Even so, our SF position lack of rebounding also hurts us here.

Well it kinda sucks when your shooting guard can't shoot... at least Mason can shoot compared to Finley.

Bonzi Wells??? Haven't heard his name mentioned. The Hornets are supposedly chasing Posey, so Wells may not be in their plans. He might be someone who has to settle for whatever money he can get.

A better shooter, passer, and defender than Michael Finley? I'll take it.

You guys are very lucky to have landed Mason, he seams to be on the rise in the NBA and made the most of Agent Double Negitave being hurt all of last year. You're lucky to have landed a guy under 35, that seams to be the only type of player you guys want these days, calling John Stockton

He's a sniper and can shoot when given minutes (look at his numbers in his 17 starts) so I think he's a solid signing for you guys. He's capable of hitting shots both off the dribble and when he's set. Class act as well.

Why not Azubuike? Warriors or somebody else must of played a factor, don't see why he wouldn't be gone after.

But, I still do dig the addition of Mason, because he can do more than just shoot and has quickness, from the material I've gathered on him (some games, and hearing, reading about him randomly). Adequate defender.

It really would of been nice to get Mason + another one of the 2nd-tier wings out there. I feel like another new piece is needed, aside from rookie(s) and Mason. I'm basically expecting that with what (contract) options are still there.

I am obviously not the most familar with Mason, though. And that is impressive about his starting numbers, obviously won't have production like that if he starts, but solid production within what his role will be.

i guess im reacting a little different to this signing, i actually like it a lot and was relieved that we got someone. I like what the wizard fans are saying about him, thanks for you opinions guys.

good shooter, plays D, can handle, those are ALL major upgrades over finley except for the good shooter part. hes young too. remember, we dont necessarily need major impact players, but rather a healthy big 3 and supportive role players.

is he a RFA? if he is the spurs might be scared that the warriors have gone completely insane and will match anything and everything.
