Who defends D-Ho the best?

Post#1 » by caneaddict » Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:07 am

Hey all,

Heat fan here. I love D-Ho, how could anyone not? He's my current favorite player in the league (Shhhh! don't tell D-Wade). So i was wondering if you all would take Haslem for him? :D

Sorry couldn't resist. I know D-Ho is off limits. But the Heat do need a center. Since we get so much scoring from D-Wade and hopefully Beasley, I'm looking at who would be the best guy to target defensively. To that end you all are intimately familiar with the two guys I'm thinking of; Okafor and Chandler. Okafor might sign the QO and be UFA next summer (or maybe we wrestle him away in trade) and Chandler is UFA in 2010.

I know how their respective fans feel about them but I wanted to gauge your reaction to how well they have defended D-Ho. Obviously no one shuts down D-Ho, so I'm looking for who has had the most success slowing him down. I didn't get to catch your playoff series against New Orleans. Who was on D-Ho, Chandler or West? Which of Okafor or Chandler has done better defensively against him. Beyond those 2, who are the other big men in the league that do the best job against D-Ho? It didn't seem like Bosh really slowed him down much but maybe he's done better in games I missed.

Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated.

supposedly Brendan Haywood is the Dwight stopper, but that's only if you are a Wiz fan...I think Howard is Howard's Howard stopper...

Umm... we never played New Orleans in the playoffs...

By far the best defender in the league on Dwight... is... the free throw line.

Give us Wade, Beasley, and your 2009 1st rounder, and I will definitely think about it.

Okafor SUCKS at guarding Dwight. It should be noted that Dwight has traditionally put up huge numbers against the Bobcats.

We did not play New Orleans in the playoffs.

And Bosh? I'll let the other guys explain that for you.

IMO, the best defender against Dwight is probably Haywood. But then, that doesn't say much. The double teams by the Detroit bigs are tough as well.

It should be just safe to say that Dwight can dominate anyone in the league.

detroit did the best stopping Dwight, Rasheed and Maxiell do an excellent job defending/trapping Dwight when he gets the ball in the post. It seems like this is more of a mental challenge for dwight, he seems intimidated by Sheed and the Pistons

I second that, sheed has a way of getting into his head. which I guess points to howard being his own worst enemy, still a little immature yet, give him time.

most definitely RASHEED WALLACE. as much as I love dwight, his moves are still pretty primitive. Rasheed has seen it all before and knows exactly what dwight wants to do when he gets the ball, plus he talks a lot of smack that really frustrates dwight into wanting to show rasheed who's boss, which only makes it easier for rasheed to predict and forces dwight into a turnover or bad shot.

Physically I would say Andrew Bynum
Psychologically I would say Rasheed all the way.

Put the 2 together and you get the free throw line.

I do not know what I was thinking when I said Andrew Bynum. I was thinking about Tim Duncan. Oops on my part. When I was typing this I was reading something on the Lakers board about bynum.

No, physically Yao Ming is your best bet without question....... Mentally, I would give the piston's frontline the edge........(of course, i dont know how much the stress fracture was bothering him this year so, yeah, the answers Yao Ming.

Rasheed Wallace knows D12's every move . . .

Dwight also struggles against Yao some....

The Brendon Haywood/Etan Thomas or Rasheed Wallace defends him the best, he doesn't seem to go off on them, im pretty sure when is offensive game, and hitting 70% from the charity stripe comes around, he will unstoppable....

Dont forget that flopping scrub Jason Collins...Dwight normally is on the bench three quarters of the game because of his incessant flopping, also he gets so frustrated by him hes on the verge of getting ejected every game. Collins/NJ might be inhis head even more than Sheed does..at least Sheed pretends to help him during games.

Chandler is no good at guarding Dwight. Dwight overpowers him too easily.

Okafor is a little better than Chandler at it but still not great.

Dwight struggles like hell against Haywood, R.Wallace, Yao, Shaq. Perkins isn't too bad either at guarding Dwight. He used to struggle against Duncan but not anymore.
