I hope he re-ruptures his Achilles while practicing by himself - so that he lays there for 12 hours helpless and without painkillers. I hope Rescue Dawn lost him as much money as I think it did. I hope people who haven't seen that movie yet will steal it from bittorrent instead of buying the DVD.

At the very least I hope he enjoys all the wonderful things Philadelphia has to offer. Fabulous weather, majestic landscapes, gorgeous women, tap water that tastes like clean mountain spring water, and sports fans with intelligence and class.

I don't believe for a second that they gave him a "take it or leave it offer." He wanted to go to Philly anyway. If he wanted the Clippers to match Philly's amount, they would've. Brand didn't have to sign right away...what's the rush? Mike Dunleavy says he hadn't been able to get ahold of Brand or Falk since THURSDAY. He had already decided to go east before any of this began.

I voted for stupid front office. The Clippers have had such a miserable history negotiating with free agents in the past, particularly unrestricted ones, I can't come to any other conclusion.

To give a low ball initial offer to their best player was a foolish move and it appears they also may not have been willing to add a no trade clause to the contract if you listened to interview on AM 570. Sterling/Roeser got what they deserved yet again.

I listened to snippets of the EB interview. He said it went down exactly as earlier reported. The Clips wouldn't budge on their offer, because they thought no one else would be interested. So the meeting ended, and he went out and got 2 huge offers within a day. THEN the Clippers came back and offered to up the money.

At that point, why should EB have any more loyalty to the Clippers than any other team? He made a good faith gesture and offered to sign for less money than other teams. Too bad the Clippers took it too far, and offered him less than they easily could've right from the get-go. They 'played' this negotiation like they were dealing with a RFA- "go get some offers, then come back to us." But EB was UFA, by the time he gets the better offer from a team that really reached out to him, it's over.

He was in the meeting with them when this went down. After that, it was pretty much game over. The Clippers can say "We couldn't get a hold of him!", but they had already blown it by that point.

We're going to end up debating this to death with no resolution, but I'd say locking in Baron immediately after the free agency period starts is a damn good faith gesture and showing plenty of respect by addressing your franchise player's #1 request. That on top of taking Elton for his word and offering a contract below market but kept flexibility in retaining/leveraging Corey and Shawn for potentially more assets is actually sound thinking. Wow, can't believe I just typed that given my disdain for the FO but they clearly have a very different perception of events.

Yeah, this could go on forever. But I think one thing we can all agree on is your last sentence. That's really more important in the end than who was 'right' or 'wrong', there was obviously a huge breakdown in communications.

Honestly, it's pretty obvious what happened. Falk (and Brand too possibly) are still pissed about Brand's last contract and this is their revenge. Instead of giving Brand an extension or 7-year max deal like they probably should have, they waited for him to get a 6-year offer sheet from Miami.

I guarantee this plan to leave has been in the works for a long time now. What I don't get is why a guy like Brand even has an agent. It's a pathetic waste of money, especially for a Duke business major. Ray Allen did the smartest thing ever dumping his agent and simply hiring an attorney when it's time to make deals.
