Yi's value after trade to NJ

Hi I was wondering what the general thought on Yi's career now that he has been traded to NJ. is he already a bust or is there still a decent chance he will become an ok player or even an allstar?

i think hes the most talented but they do have a slew of big men now. brook, ryan anderson, boone, s williams, stro swift, theyre pretty heavy up front now. i really think its a wait a see situation.

I think you can safely take Swift off that list. With the Nets committed to rebuilding he's not going to get any tick. Williams has been out of favour too, and I think the standard big rotation in NJ this season will be Brook and Yi starting with Boone backing up. That still leaves YI value in flux, but I think you take a small flier on him in the draft and be confident it'll pay dividends. In a small league I want him on my bench, but in a large league he's a very solid late pick to fill in at PF.

No clue why the Bucks even drafted him when he despised the idea of playing in Milwaukee. I think he'll be out of the league within 5 years and back to China.

I was thinking the opposite, with Boone and Yi starting, with Brook and Ryan off the bench, and Williams sprinkled in for some D. This is assuming that they trade Krstic of course. Brook is pretty young and Boone has proven playing time. I could see Ryan jumping into the starting 4 if Yi falters. Yi is pretty good when he plays, with a higher FT% and averages a block and a steal, although his FG% is low for a big. The problem this year is that he is playing in the Olympics and I think he is going to wear down again. Have to wait and see if he is starting in preseason games and then draft him in the latter rounds maybe just ahead of guys like Curry.

The only reason he looked as worn as he did last year were his successive injuries (wihch also limited his FG% to a degree). It's certainly possible that Boone will get the nod over one of either Brook or Yi, but whichever of those two starts on the bench I'd still expect good minuted and production from. I think your scenario is more likely that Yi coming in of the bench mind you.

Where I'd draft him is way up in the air. In a really big league (25+ players) I thikn he's a very nice guy to take a flier on if you're short at the big slots. And by flier I mean a little ahead of his overall rank for that system. In a shallower league it;s easier to find solid alternatives, which is why I'd only really consider him for my fantasy bench (assuming I still think he'll start). Given who they traded for him I'm pretty sure that Yi will get his chance to start.

sean williams is doing good in summer league and i doubt he'll be out of rotation. nets have 5 man to share 2 spots and that is if they don't bring krstic back. anderson is probably gonna get the least pt and krstic will be gone, but that still doesn't guarantee 30mpg for yi. if he can't play sf he is not worth more then a very late round flier

Sean played well in spots in the regular season last year too and still couldn't hold on to regular PT. I'm not counting on summer league to shoot him way up the depth chart, and I think he'll have to show some serious improvement to be a real threat to anyone's PT. I'm not suggesting that Yi is a risk free pick at all either, nor that things may not change, but right now Yi looks good to play 25-7mpg+ no sweat. Traing camp and preseason will shake that out though (as you suggested).

i agree with you on the 25-7mpg prediction for yi, but i think you are underestiamting sean williams. he has more potential then boon. the bottom line is we can speculate as much as we want but we don't even know what they'll do with krstic. we'll have to wait for training camp...
