Next Great Clipper PF

Post#1 » by ClipperEric » Wed Jul 9, 2008 9:26 pm

The Clips have a long history of great Power Forwards:

- Michael Cage
- Loy Vaught
- "Falk" Elton Brand

Who's going to be the next great Clipper PF? (There really aren't any available, so here's my list of options, including some tall SF's.)

1. Josh Smith (RFA - Probably the best option)
2. Luol Deng (RFA - can we get him for $8 - $10/yr?)
3. Okeafor (Probably too much $ and no offense)
4. Shawn Marion (What can we do to land him? Can we sign him for more than 1 year?)
5. Roni Turiaf (I hear he may get $4mil, too much for just a spark-plug)

Any other options???

Deng isn't a PF and Turiaf is a solid starter at best.

We need some one to fill the hole at PF either Smith or Okafor. Smith is too small and Okafor is injury prone. I think I'd rather take Smith, that way we'd have plenty of options on fast breaks.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

If you guys get Josh Smith, he is a better fit than Brand. I'm jealous I want Josh Smith on my Lakers.

I'm not sold on anyone in the FA market. Sorry, but I think we'd end up overpaying Okafor and getting Josh Smith is too much of a reach since I really think they'd match our offer.

Next great Clipper PF.. I'm aiming at Patrick Patterson out of Kentucky. Or Tyler Hansbrough.. just to break the whole Dukie thing.. or Blake Griffin.

Sorry, I really miss Brand of the old.

Okafor and Kaman patrolling the lane is tempting.

Did you know he's signing with the Dallas Mavericks this season? I think I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight. :(

I read that things are looking good for him to potentially make the official Mavs roster.

edit: just checked your link and he's getting a 1-year guaranteed. It's funny, the Mavs fans over there are sad that he's being signed and we would love to have him back.

Ryan Gomes would be the most efficient choice as far as contract, performance and age. Sign him and trade for Boris Diaw and I think we're gonna be really good, just not that sexy on paper.

I think Powell will benefit greatly from the addition of Davis. He's a bargain and another weapon in transition. He could be a very pleasant surprise next year.

Why would it be a surprise that Singleton wasn't considered by the Clippers? He and Dunleavy butted heads over playing time the first time around.

If we can't get Smith or Okafor then i'm all for some lower profile player via, free agency, trade or sign & trade, which would enable us to add someone else next offseason. Though, to me, Zach Randolph should never be in discussion.

Guys that i think could help us a for a year(or even longer) are:

Nick Collison(not sure if the whatevers will trade him)
Chris Wilcox(i know we had him, but he would fit in nice with Davis and has an expiring contract)
Nenad Krstic(had some injury problems, but might turn out to be a steal)
Carl Landry(looked solid last year, but might be kept by the Rockets)
Ian Mahinmi(I think that kid could turn out to be a real player in this league)
Drew Gooden(not a sexy pick up, but could get the job done for a year)
Walter Herrmann(can play the 3 and 4 positions)

Out of the guys listed, i think Wilcox, Krstic, Gooden and Herrmann are the most available guys and i'd like us to take a shot at Krstic, if we can't land Smith or Okafor.

I was thinking Hermann would be nice too. I remember him playing well on the Bobcats, but he cant get into the rotation in DET since they have some nice depth.

Zach Randolph

Seriously though, why the hell do the Clippers want Zach Randolph? They're better off starting Livingston at the 4 than "0.2 Blocks per game" Randolph.

Whenever I think of Hermann/Fabio, I think of his dunk..

haha, but he was a solid player on the Bobcats. I really haven't watched enough of him to see what he can do. He would be an interesting sign though.
