Cashman needs to stop hording prospects

Post#1 » by Pharmcat » Wed Jul 9, 2008 12:39 am

harden did not go at face value IMO and i think we couldve made a competitive offer....part of having lots of young prospects is to trade some of em to fill needs on the team, but i get this feeling that cash falls in love with prospects and refuses to deal em and this needs to change

I agree but Harden is a walking injury. I think if we pursue F-Rod this offseason (he doesn't think he'll re-sign with the Angels) then we can afford to trade some of our young arms that were assumed to become our bullpen of the future. I am not saying make every arm available but c'mon, Cash.

I wouldn't want to give up anything of value for Harden with his health concerns. If he could stay healthy for a year I would consider it. I absolutely do not see K-Rod signing with us at all. There are two, maybe three closer type players becoming free agents not counting Todd Jones. K-Rod, Joe Nathan and Brandon Lyon. The D'Backs, Tigers, Angels and even more teams will be on the market for them. So looking at deals like Cordero's 4/44 will pale in comparison to K-Rod and Joe Nathan's deals because both of the guys are better. -Jitpal

Hell will freeze over before Beane gives the Yankees a good deal on a player. What makes you guys think he'd be willing to deal with us without giving up the farm? All of the A's big gun pitchers have been sent to the NL: Hudson (Braves), Mulder (Cards), Haren (D'Backs), and Harden (Cubs). I think Beane took a little less to get Harden out of the American League. That's aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure Beane despises the Yanks and what they stand for.

I don't think we have a shot at K-Rod. He's not going to want to set-up, and Mo isn't going anywhere the way he's pitched this season.

I agree though, I have no problem trading prospects if the right deal comes along.

Yeah, K-Rod isn't coming here. Also, Nathan resigned with Minny in the offseason I believe he now has a multi year deal so he won't be a FA this year.
