OT- Bogut Set to Sign Stupid Big Deal

Post#1 » by Gomes3PC » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:06 pm

5 years, $73 million for this guy? I mean, he's probably a top 3 center in the east, but that's like the bronze medal in a beauty contest for pigs. After seeing this deal, Philly seems to have gotten a steal in Elton Brand. Or, Milwaukee is trying quickly to become Clippers East.

The contract is 5 years 60 million, if he reaches all the incentives it is 72,5 million. I think he is worth 12 million per year. He had a very good season last year...

Yea Andrew can play. He isn't like a Mark Blount/Adonal Foyle type big man that just goes through the motions, he's very active and actually enjoys trying to win. Good numbers last season too.

It is overpaying. But young bigs often get overpaid. I am not surprised, but i wouldn't have given him that much cash.

That might be more than what Big Al is getting paid.

Love the title of the topic. I guess this is what happens when you have the top pick and draft need (Center) instead of bet player available (Chris Paul) when you have people at the position (Tj Ford, Mo Williams). Not hard to figure out what Larry Harris no longer has a job. As for Bogut, they paid more than he is worth based on what we have seen. But they do not want to let him have a huge year next season, have him become an RFA and have to match an offer from another team that may be higher than this. For this particular player, though, I do not think this was going to happen.

Big Al is 5 year, 65Million, so yeah it could be more, if Bogut hits the incentives.

I don't see a difference Boguts 15/10 and Big Al's 16/11 2 years ago. Bogut is a better passer and has betters size for the center position, both can block a shot and neither of them can defend worth a damn at this point.

If you got one of these guys you have to build with them not everyone can have a KG traded to their team.

It it's true, than that's a bad deal and proves why the Bucks organization sucks. You just can't over pay a player like Bogut and expect to win. While a good player, he isn't close to being an impact player. He hasn't done much to help his team win since he has been there. He is a good player to have as your 4th or 5th best player on a team.

I see a huge difference in Jefferson's numbers and Bogut's as Jefferson was 21 yrs old when he did that and Bogut was what 25 this past season? We have most likely seen everything that he can do. Jefferson still had potential to do more and he did averging 22 and 11 this past season. I think Jefferson is a number 1 scoring option on a team while Bogut is a 3rd or 4th at best. I think Bogut is overpaid here because lets face it you aren't going to win a title with him as your center unless he drastically picks up his defense. I still don't see the Bucks going that far this year despite the great trade for Richard Jefferson. RJefferson is the only guy who defends on that team and they have no interior defense with Bogut and CharlieV. Milwaukee will most likely make the playoffs now and lose first round. Bogut is also not good enough on offense to justify paying him that much money either. I don't ever see him dominating games offensively and he will never avg 20 a game. I would have offered him 5 yrs 50 mil instead of the 60 mil he makes guaranteed and the 72.5 he could make with incentives. As Bill Simmons says though, "Everyone in the NBA is overpaid by atleast 10%".

That's the kind of deal you get after putting up Big Al like numbers 20-10 or 16-11 when he was in Boston. W/e thou, this is gonna make players like Smith and Okafor jack up their price tag thou

Bogut - just another overpaid center. Isn't the league filled with them?

25? Bogut was 23 and Jefferson was 22.

I like this deal for us. I think when teams lock in fools gold guys like Bogut to huge deals it helps us remain extra competitive. You got to look for alot of D at the center position. If you get just an offensive player at that spot while paying near max salary it hamstrings your team for years to come.

Sure, center's tend to get overpaid, and this qualifies, but Bogut played really well last season. If he was on a good team he'd get a lot more recognition.

Bogut playing well is like Brad Miller playing well. Sure - they put up numbers but what about the D. Center is a defensive postion. You need a good defensive center to anchor your middle. With a guy like Bogut your paying the big bucks to get scoring.. It's not worth it.
