What we really need?

I hope we resign Posey, House & TA. I have no idea of the money and contracts and cap space so many years out.

However, no matter what happens, we are in very good shape. Our starting five are good enough to win a championship. They are all under contract for multiple years.

The best sub by the numbers in the playoffs was House and we can probably get him for the LLE. The next best sub, Powe we have under contract and we have his Bird rights. (Good job DA.)

We are solid at the Bigs with KG, Perk, Powe, Scal or Baby.
If we sign House we are solid at the Smalls with Ray, Rondo, House, Pruitt, Giddens & TA (if signed).

It leaves the three and our starter is on of the best in Pierce. We'd possibly like to sign Walker to a three year deal with part of the MLE. Or Posey. Or some other backup SF.

Whatever happens, we are in very good shape. Our team got a lot better as the playoffs continued. Powe, Perk and Rondo substantially developed before our eyes. Baby not so much, but he's a rookie.

Finding a backup SF is not that difficult a problem if Posey and the Celtics cannot come to terms. Indeed one could argue that Giddens can defend the 3. Gidden's standing reach is average for a drafted SF and his 42 inch vertical should compensate for his lack of height. Walker may fill the role by the end of the season.

As a team we are in very good shape. We are the champions and our starting core is under long term contract. For many of our key subs, we have their Bird rights.

I agree for the most part, good post. But at don't agree at being solid at the Bigs because we have no true backup Center. That is our biggest hole, can we rely upon PJ Brown to make another comeback? Also, isn't it strange that if House was our best bench player, Doc didn't play him at all basically, until we got to the Detroit series?

Like you said, we don't even need to bring in a backup SF, it's not a requirement because we have Giddens, Walker, Scal, and if we sign him TA, to backup the wing positions. Right now we have no-one to backup the center position.

If you look at the season stats, which is a bigger sample size, you'll find that House and Powe are still our best bench players. You'll also see that Tony performed better than Posey during the reg. season.

Since the Roland rating is designed to give you a players value to the team, it looks like Posey isn't as valuable as our eyes have told us. He got a lot of time, but he wasn't that effective.

We just added more athleticism and youth out of draft. With Posey, House and TAllen back, we are already loaded. It looks like we have one more spot left for a back-up point guard. We need to cut Scalabrine to make a room for a younger center like Morris.

We need 3 things with or without Posey
1-more atheleticism------------posey leaving is not the end of anything, but will make us more atheletic naturally

2-size upfront---------------------im not a david harrison fan but he is probably the answer here
3-drought scoring---------eddie, TA's aggressiveness, giddens and pruitt (maybe), other FA options

in that order

Posey got us over the hump of winning the first title; he was huge
but we've won the title and have that off of us
i want to win 69(new c's record)-75 games this year
with some subtle tweaking; we could be the greatest team ever this year

Keep Posey. He's kinda like an Horry. He extends the d, hits big shots and is a pesky defender. It's hard to measure how he gets under the skin of the opposition.

Keep House. He provides good energy and is another guy who extends the d...

Let TA walk. Can replace him with Giddens and Pruitt.

Sign Livingston. Him & House would be an interesting combo.. Livingston's a very heady ballplayer..

I agree that we need to re sign Posey and House. But I disagree that our starting 5 is good enough to win a championship. Look at game 7 vs the Cavs. Without the great play of P.J. Brown in the 4th quarter, we would have lost that series. Look at the game 4 comeback vs the Lakers. Without Posey and House, the would not have made that comeback.

Don't fool ourself. Our bench was a key to our success all year. Guys like Posey, House, Powe, and P.J. Brown bailed us out a lot. The media was too stupid to notice. This was the same media that had Toronto winning our divison.

The root of why we were so successful this year, is that once we had good enough we didn't get complacent, but made every effort to get better by free agency and such within our budget.

As much as I like Posey, House & TA, and would love to see each resigned on some level, they key once again is simply not to get complacent and think we can just resign these three players and repeat (IMO).

So then for complacency sake perhaps it's better that we don't resign him. If we don't then the media will doubt the team and say they can't do it without the irreplaceable glue guy in Posey. Our guys like to prove people wrong. I hope we resign him, but like Danny said we will be a good team no matter what.
