The coach usually because he's the "leader" of the team. In your case (Bulls), I think Pippen and Jackson probably got equal amount of credit. Phil became the Zen Master and people began to say there was no way Jordan wins any championships without Pippen.

Players win games, coaches lose them. Unless they've won multiple championships that is.

The second best player should be getting the credit. You really think that Doc Rivers won the championship for the celtics over KG or Ray Allen.

You could make a case for Tom Thibodeau, though.

Btw., you really think Paul Pierce was their best player? Winning the finals MVP doesn't mean he was the best player on that team. People don't understand how much a player like KG changes the whole thing, both offensively & defensively, not mentioning his overall influence on the team (energy, determination, motivation etc.).
P.s.: He said "usually", even underlined it.

But what about for the Spurs title teams and the Pistons title team?

It really totally depends on the team. On the 03 Spurs, you can bet that with Duncan far and away the team's best player at that point, that Pop was getting more credit than anyone but Timmy.
And even with the 04 Pistons. I feel like LB almost actually got the most credit by default, since there was no one player to really give a ton of the credit to.
Boston seems to be situation where the second best player (Pierce) definitely deserves more credit, but it's also a weird situation where an assistant is more valuable than the head coach.
