Mario Chalmers/Chauncey Billups?

With Chalmers getting some media hype for his great summer league play so far, I wonder who his game reminds you of. With his penchant for being clutch combined with being an excellent floor general and possessing good strength and quickness, does he remind you a little bit of Chauncey Billups?

If not, who does his game resemble the most?

Chauncey Billups is not clutch just because takes him three full quarters to get in the rhythm to hit his first trey.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about anyone in the Eastern Conference.

I'd disagree, imo being clutch means stepping up at the end of the game. A guy like Robert Horry has been shooting in the 30-40% range over the past few seasons, doesn't mean you want to see him shooting a three at the end of the game.

The other argument is that Chauncey is a career 38% 3 PT shooter, which is pretty good. Which means that if what you say is true, most of the threes he's taking is toward the end of the game..which would make him clutch?

The same could be said of Tim Hardaway, but I bet you wouldn't.

As for Chalmers, it's too early for me to tell. Obviously, I would love to say he's similar to Chauncey. Who wouldn't want their point guard prospect to have that kind of potential and skill?

What I can tell you is that he's shot the ball horribly in SL and turned the ball over more than you're comfortable with, but he's gotten into the paint pretty much at will, played some very good defense (at least he did on Derrick Rose), got into the passing lanes a lot, was active on the break, and was able to draw a lot of fouls while making most of the free throws.

It looks good so far, but it's summer league. I'm not holding my breath...

I could see him having a Rondo-like impact his first few years. Being able to step in and play tough quick defense. Chalmers has a better shot though, so the defense won't be able to leave him completely wide open.

I'm sorry, but Rondo >> Chalmers in terms of defense. Probably passing as well.

Chalmers hasn't even played good defense in the summer league so calling him Rondo on defense is a little premature even though he was supposed to be a good defender coming out of college...

Actually, he played very good defense on Derrick Rose, but that's beside the point. Other than that, his defense has looked fairly average. He's been great at coming up with steals and making it difficult for his man to get the ball, but that isn't the same thing as shut down defense.

Keyon Dooling without the attitude is my guess. He's no Billups. He was a second round pick up until his "shot" and got picked at around the place where he should have been.

After watching Rose struggle in game 2 - I don't Chalmers defense had alot to do with it.

Has Chalmers reached Travis Diener summer league status yet?
