Brent Barry to sign with Houston?

Post#1 » by batkins182 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:09 am

Brent Barry is off the Phoenix Suns radar. Darius Miles and Devin Brown are on the periphery. And Tyronn Lue remains the favorite to be Steve Nash’s backup at point guard.

As he was last March, the 36-year-old Barry showed interest in signing with the Suns — even though they could only offer him the $1.262 veteran minimum salary. But all indications now are that Barry will wind up in Houston, where the Rockets can offer him their bi-annual exception of $1.9 million.

The Suns weren’t in a position to match or beat the offer. If they fill their remaining roster spots with rookie Robin Lopez and nothing other than veteran minimum contracts, their payroll will be $76.1 million for the 2008-09 season. That’s a shade under $5 million over the luxury tax, leaving the Suns with a payroll and tax bill over $80 million ($81.1 million) — the highest in franchise history.

It certainly looks that way right now, but who knows what could happen. I had no idea the Warriors were even intested in Maggette.

Barry would help the Rockets very much.

Barry adds exactly what I wanted the team to have, that much is for sure. Good to have a Barry Boy back. Any word if we're gonna subsidize his dentures?

Indeed. I like the addition of Barry. I've actually wanted to see him here for several years. I had visions(more like nightmares) of seeing Luther Head come off the bench for significant minutes this year, and hopefully now Barry takes his place, thank Buddha.

The missing piece to a championship? Obviously not, but how can anyone not like the addition of another Barry?

In Morey I trust.

Why is everyone so pump up about Barry? His brother was a great addition but do we need another old player to come off bench ? only thing he can bring in 17 mins per game last year for San Antonio was 7.1 PpG and 1.7 Assit? 6years ago he would have been a great pick up but he been in the league know for 13years the best season he had was in 01-02 when he average 14 PpG for the Sonics.

Look at it like Raoul mentioned and I was about to mention before realizing it had already been done:

Barry replaces Head.

Take Head's wasted minutes from last year and replace them with a guy who is capable of being productive and hitting shots when needed. Definite improvement, but if we really weren't championship calibre before, he's not likely to push us over the top. We can freely cut Head's salary after this since we have a better replacement at the same price.

I know you're being sarcastic, but the addition of Barry would be great for this team. If we can end this offseason by keeping Scola (is that Panathanaikos offer legit) and Landry, and signing Barry, then we'll have a very solid rotation heading into the upcoming season:

Yao/Dorsey/Deke
Scola/Landry/Hayes
Battier/Greene/Novak
Mcgrady/Barry/Head
Alston/Jackson/Brooks

If Greene can be a contributing 3rd scorer, then we could be set. If not, then we still have some valuable expirings come trade deadline. Once again, if we can head into this next season with the above roster, then I'll be very happy as long as we can stay healthy.

This just in. Luther Head found beaten to death in an alleyway. No signs of defensive struggle found.

I want him to be the backup, great ball handler, can play PG and has. Great shooter, can do pretty much everything anything where looking for, I think this means bye to Jackson, but I could be wrong.

I heard on the 610am Sportsflash that Barry told Phoenix he was signing with us. Based on the uncertainty with Landry it's a good acquisition. I think it was pretty clear from the beginning as Morey said that we weren't going to be able to do much free agency wise. Upgrading Luther Head should be looked at as nothing less than an improvement. He also brings some handles and spot pg sprinkled in.

I hope we retain Landry. If that happens we can trim the fat when/if they make a higher profile move as I expect.

I was going thru my tapes of last yr,trying to label them after putting it off forever, and Head was a pretty decent player during the regular season. Too bad he collapses in the Playoffs.

The only way that Im happy with this lineup is if artest stays with the kings, cause if he goes to lakers or another west contender, I woundt like our chances ,dude was really killen us last season because we didnt have anybody to matchup up with him, they even tried putting chuck hayes on him.
