OVER THE TOP????

Post#1 » by TheLSUMaverick » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:07 pm

Everyone seems to be upset with the way things are going this offseason. Personally
I like the direction we are heading in. Everyone keeps talking about the move that will
put us over ther top. Well put on your GM hats and let me know what you would do if you
were the FO with no MLE and waaaaay over the salary cap.

As much as I would like us to make moves, I also find that it would be a challenge to actually make a fair deal for us. Plus, I'd also like to see how this team would play together with Carlisle coaching because I expect there to be a lot of freedom in the offensive. That can only be positive so I am looking forward to see how we play. Not much has changed of this team since we went to the finals and I'm confident we can still get there.

Being realistic, there's NO move that would put us over the top right now, we have too many contracts that could be considered bad; Dampier, Stackhouse, and Terry.

It'd have to be a deal where we get rid of those three contracts, getting a big star in return, and having them gel with Kidd/Dirk.

It's not happening this year, best case scenario is we sneak through the gaps, have a solid year, hopefully get homecourt in the first round, and hope we get a lot of lucky bounces of the ball.

I can't realistically see us doing much this year as far as moves go. Ideally, moving Stackhouse/Bass/Howard for a star would be it.

Our big move was trading for Kidd. I don't think the f.o. is going to look to make another one until they see how a Kidd-led team does with a new coach and full season.

Theres no way to get over the top at this point. I think we should have tried to trade for some youth while we had the chance in the draft... I am pretty anxious about the Gerald Green signing, even if he is overrated.

man ive been thinkin this for awhile dude i know cuban loves dirk and i think hes gonna do whatever he can to get decent to nice additions and fill in spots around dirk for a lil money
man i think hes gonna go after either lebron or bosh and i have been talkin to my friends about this but i think seriously we are goin to the bank with bosh in the summer of 2010
Diop and Bosh together wont let anyone into the paint for years
but then after that it gets blurry...lol
im gonna be all in for the mavs for the next few years but if we dont get Bosh we are gonna be screwed for at least till 2015

I think japan is right.
being realistc, with the assets we have (or dont have), a major improvement seems almost impossible.

regardless, even though it's not really realistic...
if the kings want to dump salary and get a young player:
bass, stack, jones... for artest and kenny thomas
then trade josh howard for jason richardson (this is really unrealistic, cause the 'cats already have wallace. so they would have to trade wallace first... I only posted this because I read somewhere that MJ is very high on josh howard)
that would leave us with

kidd / terry / barea
richardson / terry / green
artest / green / ?singleton
nowitzki / thomas
damp / diop

That's a pretty starting 5. Not happening though, but still. However, I'm on the same page as Teffer10, i think we should rebuild... It's sad, but i don't think we have a legitimate shot to win. I don't know, maybe if it's all coming together, Rick's style, a training camp with Kidd, the further development of Bass, Green (?), J-Ho's resurrection, a suprise player who will do wonders like J-Ho did, (Foster, Terry, Seibutis), a summer league player like Bass (I like Sow), if it's all coming together, maybe, maybe we have a shot. I hope our FO considers this upcoming season like our last chance, and they would do what they have to do if the time comes... We don't wanna be mediocre for a decade...

The Lakers, Spurs, Hornets & Jazz are all gonna be a step ahead of us next year.

We are gonna be in the pack with the Suns, Rockets, Denver & Portland competing for the next 4 spots. I think Golden State drops off from Baron Davis to Corey Maggette too much to make the playoffs and the Clippers just adding Baron isnt enough. We'll make the playoffs, probably the 6th seed, but thats about it.
