If I ran the Phoenix Suns.. Summertime Fun!

Post#1 » by Amen316 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 10:29 pm

Lets say you ran the Phoenix Suns for 1 day, and all you had time to change was 1 thing.

After long thought I decided I would like to change something at the actual games we attend. Im tired of some of the same songs being played every timeout, or stop posession. I then thought about some of the other places Ive been that were electric and started YouTube searching for results. I hit search button .... and Boom there it was...

Now before you view this understand the following:
1.) It may not look like that big of a deal by camera, but being there will give you chills and a sense of interacting with the fans on a different level.

2.) This video is captured at the University of Wisconsin, they do this right as the 4th quarter begins and like the Cubs that sing take me out to the ballgame. Wisconsin has a way to pump up their fans and even players.. Maybe one of thousand bucketlist type things to do :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgf7HKrdLL8&NR=1

This is what would make the Suns game a complete different experience for at least one minute...
I would take one section of the stadium for the fans that bleed purple... If you dont jump your removed!!

I would sell the franchise to someone not named ROBERT SARVER.

Yeah, that'd be nice although NBA crowds tend to be pathetic in relation to college crowds (ever notice how oftentimes NBA fans will just sit in their seat and CLAP when something amazing happens?!?!). Have you ever seen anything the Duke fans do? Its absolutely amazing. When you talk about bucketlist things to do you have to go to a game in Cameron before you die.

If I could change one thing about the Suns, I would make a policy of only drafting players who are GUARANTEED to come over - and if they aren't then GUARANTEE IT YOURSELF. Milos Vujanic? Nice job. Goran Dragic? Why the hell when you desperately need a young backup PG do you draft an under contract player who you DON'T PLAN TO BUY OUT???? Sorry, still a little bitter if you can't tell.

I used to live in PHX, but don't anymore.

I took my dad back to the Suns v. Spurs game last year right after we aquired O'Neal. The seats weren't bad, but not fantastic. The beer helped.

I was the only GD person standing up after O'Neal's first dunk or the hustle of him diving out of bounds for a loose ball. I actually turned around and yelled at the other people in my section. They responded by slowly getting up and clapping a few times!

Why the HELL do you go to games to act like that? I was embarassed to be a Suns fan. Basketball arenas should be reserved for people who smile like idiots the entire game because they are so completely happey to be in the same building as the players that they idolize and cheer for. In a perfect world, money wouldn't get you a courtside seat.

I hate the Spurs with a passion. That being said, I went to the controversial Game 3 two years ago at the AT&T center and those fans, though they literally have nothing else to do in San An, are amazing at games. We rarely sat down and I had the most incredible headache after the game because of the noise (and again, the beer).

Sorry to go on a rant, but I agree with anyone who comments negatively on PHX fans. They suck.

The thing I would change? The fans. I know that's not realistic, but I'll pretend it is.

Can you imagine the amount of noise that could and would be generated by a section filled with SDU, Sarlonus, rsavaj, KJ7 (rip), TASTIC, Cash, Tsherkin, sd1306, walkingart, togo, pidi, JustMoe, eastside, jlove, nevetsov, NeverFear, ma_falaa and yours truly?

It would be ungodly.

Your a phx fan. What does that say? First off, it is a business, and the laker games are worse then the suns games. talk about trying to be seen. PHx is like that too a point.

I would find another owner, and it would not be jerry colangelo. Yeah, he liked to have citizens pay for his stadiums. I know the homers love him, but he did not even come close to spending the money like Sarver has, and has never won anything with the suns. I like the guy, but he gets way too much credit for really nothing. Don't you remember those years after Barkley all the way to Nash????? Yeah, great management.

Second, I would use the MLE, would have canned DAntoni a year ago. Would have had a better GM then BC, and picked Iggy, and would not have signed Q. I would have brought in someone else beside Kerr (because he is a UofA alumni). I would have had someone teach D, and taught Barbosa how to play point.

Most likely, Marion was going to be traded due to his ego and whining. I would have tried to get someone else, but hey, I guess I will take the shaq trade for now. This is how I see my team staked.

Nash/Barbs/DJ
JJ/Bell/Fernandez
Iggy/Hill/TT
Amare/TT/Maxiell
Shaq/Lopez

Well, something like that I guess.

Now I am not trying to be an as*, but I would not take Sarver as an ower either. I think both owners, and GM's, along with MD made mistakes.

Truth is, hindsight is 20/20.

I would like to see the audio losers go away too! These guys are ........ (fill in the blank).

The last few games I went to, I was sitting by myself most of the 1st and 3rd quarters, with my buddy in the "Toyota Club" mowing down as much free stuff, food and mostly beer as he could. The six seats next to me were girls who had gotten their tickets from Ronnie Brewer of the Jazz and all they did was text and talk about whether she should sleep with him yet. They didn't even cheer for the Jazz.

The real fan can't afford tickets or don't care to sit against the back wall with the ones that are available, leaving the stands pretty scarce with "real" fans.

So, my one thing i would do is this. I would cancel all season tickets and say that you can re purchase your tickets at the box office in one week. The following morning I would sit set up camp at the box office, so as to be ablt to get some good tickets.

Here's some funny information for you. You can purchase 76ers season tickets, row 4 behind either basket for around $4000 a seat, for those kind of dollars I could see, maybe 8 to 10 games in Phoenix, with the same seats. In Phoenix, for a $100 dollars, I can be placed on a waiting list to buy tickets.

AMEN TO THAT! This is as I see it the biggest underlying problem of the NBA. The real fan is the one who puts up a MJ/Kobe/Lebron poster at age 6, picks up a basketball as a little kid and takes it out onto the court with no nets and rusty rims, and plays out there for hours every day through their teen years etc, patting their hand on the poster every day before they go out to the court. When they have access to a TV all they ever want is to watch games and highlights, and all they can think about as they sit through class is their dreams of playing in the NBA. On average, they will attend few, if any, NBA games in their life. I was walking in the streets of a not so nice area of Atlanta one weekend, and came upon a stand where they had a prize wheel, and one of the prizes was 2 tickets to the Hawks-Wizards game. I won tickets, so I sat in the section with all of the other ticket winners (who were basically the street dwellers of ATL). Long story short, it was the game of my life. While there were a few of your drunks/crackheads, for the most part me and everyone in my section did not sit down once through the whole game. I honestly think they should have a section to which they ALWAYS give tickets out on the streets. Great community service AND enhances the thrill in the arena, which gets repeat customers in the paying areas.

Lol, i agree with most of you. Sarver does not deserve to be a owner, and I know us suns fans complain about how cheap he is, but he spends more than 24 or 22 other owners, but he did sell/trade like 20 picks :@. I doubt Colango is any better though. The biggest great thing and the biggest mistake about this franchise was Mike D, depending on the way you look at it. Without him, the team wasnt going to go anywhere with what we had, even if we got Nash. But with him, we didn't go anywhere in the playoffs, because he traded away picks, defense first picks (Rondo), hustle picks (lee) and just sick picks (Igoudala). We instead got TOOOOOOLS like Q-Rich and Kurt Thomas who cost us 2 picks to dump his contract and came back to bite us in the playoffs. Mike D in my eyes is the biggest mistake when he was made the GM for a while. He skrewed up really bad. Sarver just needs to think like Paul Allen... Steve Kerr isnt even that bad. I loved the SHAQ trade. Marion was a locker room cancer, as bad as Starbary, but he DID produce on the floor no matter what. It was like the Kobe asking for a trade thing. He gave all he had on the court, but caused problems off it. I think Marion had to go, and Kerr did what we needed. We are in great position for the 2010 offseason already, and maybe better if we can pick up some more 2010 expirings.. Kerr will be fine if Sarver wants to spend some god darn money and MAKE picks instead of trading them.

Realistically, what i would do is trade Barbosa and Diaw, Tucker, 2012 first, 2010 second for Turkoglu, Reddick, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, KVH's expiring.

Leaves us with:

Nash/William/DJ
Bell/Reddick/Giriceck
Turk/Hill/Giriceck
Stoudemire/Boone/Lopez
Shaq/Lopez/Boone

I would sign Giriceck, Skinner, Dickau, and Marks all to minimum except Giriceck for 2.5m of the MLE.

Leaves us with 15 players with Skinner, Marks, and Dickau on the IL. If Nash/SHAQ/Stoudemire go down for a 5-10 game stretch (and i doubt nash and shaq will play 82 games, so this needs to be done), this would be a perfect situation. We could get Williams to start the PG, dickau to backup, Lopez to start the 5, Marks to backup.

Yes, it would cost Sarver over 5mil extra in lux tax, but im sure this gaurantees a championship.
SHAQ/Stoudemire/Turk/Bell/Nash = the most well balanced lineup. 2 Interior presences on OFFENSE and DEFENSE, with 3 shooters. Bell being our best wing defender and turkoglu is underrated on defense. Only defensive liabilty is Nash, but i think with 4 players that can play defense, his defeciences will be less visible.

If only.. and btw, in the trades, diaw + picks go to orlando. barbosa + tucker go to NJ.

I'd be down with that, but only if it was followed by some Vanilla Ice and Snow. Way out-of-date white rap FTW!
