Clippers Renounce Livingston, Among 4 Others

Post#1 » by loflin3hree5ive » Thu Jul 10, 2008 1:28 pm

via Wiretap

The Los Angeles Clippers today renounced their rights to free agents Dan Dickau, Shaun Livingston, Boniface Ndong, Smush Parker and James Singleton.

Per the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, a renounced player no longer counts toward team salary, so teams use renouncement to gain additional cap room. After renouncing a player, the team is still permitted to re-sign such player, but the team must either have enough salary cap room to fit the salary, or sign the player using the Minimum Salary exception. After renouncing a player, a team can still trade the player in a sign-and-trade agreement.

Looks like now we're making moves to have money to sign a free agent or absorb a big contract. I guess it's a good sign we're working on freeing up some money. Livingston would have counted for something like $5 million on the cap, so it's no surprise we let him go, it was gonna have to happen eventually. Hopefully we can re-sign him for less money.

Livingston would have counted like 13 million against the cap.

N;Dong and Singleton? What the hell? We still had cap holds on them? WOW.

Hopefully this means that Azubuike and Barnes(ex-Clip) are in our sights. You know it's really sad to hear Shaun mentioned in this group of renounced players but his knee still isn't ready for an 82-game season so it is what it is.

I understand them renouncing Shaun, and I hope that they work out a smaller deal with him sooner rather than later. Other than that though, I was thrilled to see that we still had Boniface N'Dong's salary counting against the cap. WTF?

Shawn better resign. Its in his best interest. I don't see other teams offering much for him...and only we know his true health status.

I think he'll sign a muitiyear deal for less than the $5+ he was supposed to get.

I don't him signing til after we make the next big move.

^ He'll probably be the last to sign (or close to it), and if/when he does sign, it won't be for more than two years.

^ Agreed, I just can't see the Clipps offering Shaun a long term deal until he proves that he can go through a season healthy and playing well.

If we re-sign Shaun it will be after we try to get a big free agent and/or trade. I do hope that he comes back.

I think it's not just the Clippers not wanting a longterm deal, but Shaun as well, as he'd probably get a better contract if he shows that he's back from that injury.

Seeing N'Dong and Singleton on this list gave me a good laugh, but seeing Dickau and Smush's names: PRICELESS. Mike Taylor will be better than both of them combined off the bat.

Lastly, the Clippers are expected to attempt to re-sign recuperating point guard Shaun Livingston, who became an unrestricted free agent. But as Dunleavy said, this is now "the Baron Davis era."

A few days ago I had a dream that Livingston came back to play for the Clippers. He looked even skinnier than he is now and he tweaked his knee 1 minute into his first game back. It was really depressing.

Don't say that. :( I had two dreams..er...nightmares myself about similar situations a few months ago.

I think it was against the Kings and the Suns.

Word, I've had these dreams too! Ironically enough, the Clips were always playing Philly when Shaun was re-injured (I've had at least three different versions of this dream). I thought Philly's significance in my dream had to do with the botched Maggette/Livingston for Iverson deal...now I assume it was just foreshadowing.

Philly each time? Now that's crazy, but it is kind of scary that each of has had these types of dreams. I really would like to see Shaun back out there but I know when he does return it's going to be really stressful to watch at first. I remember watching Carson Palmer's first game back after he had his knee shredded and I was really nervous until he took his first hit and got back up. I know with Shaun it's going to be even more nerve-wracking.

Shaun is interviewed on the Joe McDonnell Experience. He talks about Baron signing as well as future plans. Dunleavy who was on his way to Vegas was also interviewed, but basically reiterates what was earlier said on Mason & Ireland.
