Hoopsworld: Magic and Redick
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9434
Magic and Redick: The Orlando Magic will be trading J.J. Redick, the question becomes what do they get for him? The Magic have had some introductory talks with Miami free agent Jason Williams, an Orlando resident who for weeks has been saying he'd love to play in Orlando, despite getting interest from Sacramento and a few other teams. Jason is still sold on Orlando, according to those near him. The HEAT hold Jason's rights, so they could sign-and-trade him and there has been talk that Miami likes J.J. Redick. At the trade deadline informed sources said repeatedly that Magic GM Otis Smith was trying to pry away Udonis Haslem from the HEAT who wanted J.J. Redick and others in any deal discussion, a move Otis ultimately passed on. With Otis now conceding that he has too many two-guards and not enough point guards, do not be surprised to see Redick dealt for a veteran point guard, and it might be for Jason Williams.
Man, I really like Otis, even talked to him at game here in Portland we Steve Francis did his BS in Seattle. I strongly suggested we trade him and we had a nice entertaing chat.
That being said if he passed on this deal, like Ricky Ricardo used to say, You got some explaining to do!
I one of the few who thinks Otis is doing a good job, so I won't bash him, but this one is a hard one to swallow.

Agh Kyler rehashing a big time homegrown rumor...I don't think this deal exists or ever existed, this is more Steve Kyler & Ira propaganda IMO and until it's announced across the news wire I will continue to disregard the rumors...1stly Riley isnt trading with Orlando...Obviously it would be a huge boost for our team to land Haslem, but at what cost? the terms in these rumors are undefended and the only names mentioned are JJ and Haslem, if it was turned down by Otis as the articles have stated, you have to infer that the deal must have been ridiculous, because we obviously know that JJ for Haslem straight up aint happening...

Yea this does'nt make sense because Riley is not gonna trade Haslem for just JJ. Come on us fans are not that stupid.

No way JJ for Haslem straight up was on the table.
Also, why would Orlando do a sign and trade with Redick and Jason Williams? We are not talking about a guy who we cannot afford to sign straightup (if he is willing to take the BAE as reported), and he is also not a guy that we have to force the issue with. If the Heat try and force a S&T, then Otis should say 'thanks, but no thanks' and move on. Maybe Williams would then sign outright, and maybe he wouldn't, but you don't give up a trade asset for someone who could be had for nothing, and definitely not for someone who is going to give you 15 mpg off the bench at best.

Re: We could of had Haslem for J.J!
Otis would not have turned down a JJ for Udonis deal if that is really all it was. I am assuming that Miami was asking for more than just JJ. Most likely our pick in this years draft and then a future pick as well. Not to mention we would probably need to use Cook to match salaries. It would have essentially have been this in my mind....
JJ+Cook+Lee+2010 1st Rounder
for
Udonis Haslem
As much as I want Udonis here, not so sure that is a good move. I still think if we can convince Jason Williams to come here for the LLE, we can still make a move to get Udonis with JJ & Cook. We would be in a MUCH better position to do it now than in the middle of last season.
Miami has Beasley now, who is going to take minutes away from Udonis. Miami has scorers and slashers in Wade, Beasley, and Marion. They could use some outside shooting to balance it out coming off the bench. We needed help down low going in to the final part of the season and while we do right now too, we don't nearly as much. Battie back healthy and Gortat taking strides is much better than just Foyle.
But it would be nice to be able to have Tony just play backup center to Dwight and Haslem/Gortat share the real PF minutes.
PG Nelson/Williams/
SG Pietrus/Lee/Bogans
SF Turkoglu/Lewis
PF Lewis/Haslem/Gortat
C Howard/Battie

Re: We could of had Haslem for J.J!
I am pretty sure that at the time we established this wasnt actually a deal.
That said; Haslem is one of 3 guys I'd absolutely love to see in a Magic uni - with David Lee and Lamar Odom [all for the 4] think all would round out that SL nicely.

Re: We could of had Haslem for J.J!
No one said it was straight up for J.J. The article doesn't say it either. However, outside of Dwight, Hedo or Rashard, I don't care who it is, you do that trade.
Haslem would have looked good the Detroit series instead of a DNP J.J. or KEDO or Jammer, or ANyone except the big three.
Like I said they migt have asked for the moon, but outside oh the big three, I would have pull the trigger.

So I guess you're getting a check from a NBA squad for your opinions. Please, these are just opinions I don't need your smart [no no] comments unless your Otis or Pat Riley, which you're obviously not.

I was thinking along the same lines, but I like prorl so I didn't bring it up.

Agreed. Personally, I think we get next to nothing for Redick now.
Not that he deserves much more, but still. Our best shot is that teams feel he's being pursued by multiple teams; whether fabricated or not.

Re: We could of had Haslem for J.J!
There is just one small issue. The article says that Miami has J-Will's rights. So that means they can sign him for what ever they want. If we are offering 1.3 mill and Miami says "Here is 5 mill" I think he might go for the 5 mill instead. I am not saying that is what they offered but you still gotta take into consideration they have his Bird Rights.
