Zo might be done... FAs for backup bigs?

Post#1 » by Kilroy » Fri Jul 11, 2008 4:42 pm

I really thought Zo might be a good possible pickup for us as a back-up big man...
But I had no idea how bad Alonzo's injury was but it looks like he might be done at this point.

So who could we pick up to backup Bynum at C?
Do you think Mihm and Mbenga can do the job?

I know a lot of people have Gasol spelling Bynum at C from time to time. But it seems like guys have a hard time going from the more punishing C position to the more face-up PF position if asked to switch back and forth. It might be bad for Gasols face-up moves and jumper if we ask him to also bang down low on a regular basis. Especially if he does work on the PF position this summer...

So do we need to add a big or 2? Who do you see backing up Bynum at C or Gasol at PF with Turiaf potentially gone?

I think Mihm could be good enough as a backup. There's no need to demand more than 15 minutes of production from him. He could do it before, and I believe he can do it again as long as the medical staff don't make another mistake on his check up.

With the salary Mihm's getting as a backup and being so close to the salary cap I doubt the FO will be in a hurry to sign anyone else at that spot.

As much as K. Brown sucks. He does kind of know the triangle and he can defend the post a little. Not a starter as we were using him before. But he is thick and can run the break, can not catch the ball very well. But it will be interesting to see where he goes and for how much. 1 million would be a steal.
