If LeBron wants to leave Cleveland...why not the Lakers

Post#1 » by DowJones » Fri Jul 11, 2008 10:00 pm

Can someone please explain this to me? Assuming Bron wants out of Cleveland by 2010, why wouldn't he decide to go to the Lakers and win titles with Kobe and Gasol as opposed to going to New Jersey or New York and struggle?

What am I getting at? Well Cleveland, instead of losing LeBron to New York or New Jersey for nothing, decides to do a sign and trade with the Lakers for a combination of Farmar/Bynum. LeBron is happy because he stays on Cleveland's max offer (which results in an extra $40 or so million through the life of the contract), gets to a major media market, and gets to play on an instant title favorite. Cleveland at least gets SOMETHING out of the deal.

The only problem I can see is if Kobe doesn't want it, but Kobe would be 32 at this point and my guess is that he would welcome the addition of someone as talented as James knowing that it would mean multiple titles late in his career. James would love it because he wins titles instantly and becomes the "man" in L.A. once Kobe's decline becomes apparent.

Titles/L.A./More Money>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jay-Z

He is friends with Jay-Z. Great. But where did this idea that LeBron would give up all of this for Jay-Z come from? LeBron is going to do what LeBron wants to do. This notion that Jay-Z controls LeBron is outlandish.

And? Jay-Z is using Lebron to put money in his pocket. If Lebron does not play in Brooklyn, watch how quickly that relationship goes in the trash. Speaking of trash, that's what should be done with the Cavs franchise if Bron leaves. They would have to feel Bill Gates ex, what do you really do after that??

P.S. Before you tell me that Jay-Z would never use Bron. Look at the financial situation of Benie Seigel, Damon Dash, Memphis Bleek...ect. Broke! Does Jigga care?...Hell no. He got his money and moved on.

I think it would take a lot more than Farmar/Bynum.

Well it is either Farmar/Bynum or nothing. New Jeryse and New York won't give Cleveland anything because if they did LeBron wouldn't agree to go there because they would be completely gutted.

Obviously it ONLY gets to that point if LeBron makes it clear he is gone....in which case Cleveland is screwed so you are better off getting SOMETHING for him...and a young big man and a young PG is good enough.

So you think Cleveland is better off letting LeBron walk to a team in the East for nothing than trading him to a team in the West for Bynum/Farmar?

Unless Kobe is prepared to find out how Lebron's ass tastes, then Lebron won't ever be his teammate in the NBA.

Can we talk about this when the year is 2010? Alot of things can happen in 2 years.

this man is on to something.

lebron gets the huge market, the title contender, AND the bird rights maximum offer, compared to a huge market, a mediocre team, and less money.

cavs get bynum and farmar as opposed to nothing.

The Cavs would be better off with the leftover cap space to try to sign a Bosh, Wade, etc then that offer. Lebron is easily 100000x the player both of those guys are combined. This is clearly a pipe dream and to be honest, whatever Bynum and Farmar are making in 2010, Lebron will be making way more then that. He's looking at a 100-120 million dollar contract with whatever team signs him, the Lakers can't afford that. And would Kobe like playing 2nd fiddle to Lebron? I don't think so.

Only way Lebron goes to the Lakers is if Kobe is going to the Cavs, end of story.

legacy, why would Bosh or Wade take less money to play for a completely depleted Cleveland team? And if I am Cleveland, I would rather have a 22 year old Bynum than a 28 year old Wade.

I do agree that this should be talked about more in 2009 or 2010, but then again everyone is talking about LeBron to Jersey/Knicks so I figured I would post this.

DCash is right. Not only does LeBron get the media market and a much better chance to win a title, but he also gets Cleveland's bird right's offer, and th at is something that sticks with you for your NEXT max-contract. LeBron would be giving up about $40-50 million in extra money if he doesn't do a sign and trade or sign with Cleveland.

Someone please tell this guy not to post such far fetched ideas! LBJ is great, but it would make absolutely zero sense for the Lakers! Hey buddy, you need to use your time more wisely. Why don't you buy yourself a coloring book?

So will LeBron

At least one will
