Boki Nachbar

Post#1 » by Fire BK » Sat Jul 12, 2008 5:23 am

Hey fellas... Congratulations on this miraculously quick turnaround... Having Brook Lopez slip to you at 10 will go down as one of the all-time Draft steals... Rod Thorn + Kiki have compiled a nice, young, deep roster of attractive, flexible assets. It's really impressive.

Sixers fan here, living in NYC, so all I read is Knicks + Nets... With your depth chart already maxed-out at 15+, it appears Boki got squeezed... What do you guys think??? Nachbar clearly wanted to stay, and his agent said he would stay in NJ "in a perfect world." Then came Jarvis Hayes. I'm starting to think this isn't a perfect world for Boki.

Lots of Philly fans are hoping Stefanski picks up his old player, Nachbar... Is he available? What's your feeling on this? Would he be a good fit in Philly? I always liked his game as a solid role player... What kind of years/money would he command? Thanks.

Nevermind... I guess this answers my question:

"I had been talking to Marc (Cornstein) throughout the process, so I was prepared for it," Boki said. "I guess I can only say that it's definitely a sign that I won't be in New Jersey. But it's also a good indicator that I can focus on other teams now." --- Star-Ledger

I'm still curious what you guys think of Boki as a player... Since you got to see him every game, what's your synopsis? Is he really slow? Can he play any D? Streaky shooter or consistent? Look forward to hearing your feedback. Thanks.

He is a streaky shooter but when he's on he won't miss. He knows his role and plays well off of stars. Capable of driving off of a shot fake and is a good finisher. Ball-handling isn't anything special but he is a good passer. He has size and straight line speed, but poor lateral quickness, which is why he has some problems with perimeter defense. His effort is good though and he is a team guy.

I'd agree with lruking's analysis. His slumps would last for a while sometimes but when he was on you wanted him to keep shooting. He was prob my fav Net last season but in my opinion I didn't find him to be very clutch, as proven by the series against Toronto.

Down with NJN since Kenny and Derrick

I'll miss Boki but he just wanted too many years on too much money. There was no way we'd be giving him 4-5 years of full MLE ( which is what he'd recive ) .

Boki was way too streaky as a shooter, a horrible defender, and just became way too timid last year

I won't miss him.

He talked a nice game, but showed only flashes of it on the floor.

In a bad way he's like Vince Carter but at a much lower level. Boki will make a few EPSN highlight reel plays and shots, and the other 90% of the time, I'm going: Where's Nachbar? Whare's Nachbar? Why can't he do that nice thing he did 3 games ago again?

He did go on a facializing rampage the year before, that was pretty fun to watch.

Thanks guys, interesting stuff... I guess Boki is beyond the Sixers' price range, too.

Again, congrats on your rebuilding project... It must be a fun time to be a Nets fan right now.

Well Posey just signed a 4 year deal with NO. A lot of people think that after Posey, Boki was the next player on people's wish list so it'll be interesting to see what happens with him. I did read the Nets may try to do a S&T for Boki too if the team he wants to sign with has something the Nets could use. Should be an interesting week because his name will pop up a decent amount now.

Just a quick question...

Isn't Nachbar unrestricted? How is it that we can do a S&T with him, or I guess why would the other team looking to acquire him do a S&T, when they can just sign him outright?

Yes he's unrestricted. But a sign and trade would allow a team over the cap to get him instead of just letting him go to a team that has the space/mle money. From the articles I've read the Nets would try to orchestrate this if Boki wanted to go to another team that was interested in him and had something the Nets could be interested in. I've never heard of an unrestricted doing a S&T but it is still possible.
