Thaddeus Young vs Jamario Moon vs Jason Kapono

Post#1 » by carlos1223 » Fri Jul 11, 2008 4:43 pm

I was on a Raptors board and many people there were claiming Kapono and Moon > Young which made me LOL. Who do you think is the best player of these three?

Going on the Raptors board... that was your own fault

Kapono was the best 3pt shooter last season, not a volume shooter he's supposed to be, so from a long-range persective, Kapono > Young.

Moon's athletcism surprised 99% of the Raptor fans last season and about 99% of the league as well, he's working on his handles and outside shooting this offseason and should be around the same production this season but at a slightly higher % for shooting. His dunks are very explusive (inside joke here)

Thaddeus is a project, he seems to possess very high ball IQ and knows perfectly what his role was last season. He will be a great player, but right now, a contending team would probably rather have a combination of Kapono and Moon rather than Thad whos more of a project.

I'd rather have Young though personally because he'd have a higher ceiling.

Actually, Kapono and Moon > Young right now. But Thad should be an excellent player in the future.

Young is already a pretty good player, and I'd take him over both our guys.

but Kapono's 3 point shooting ability and Moon's blocking ability are valued high in our team.

The thing about Kapono is that him as a player in the playoffs and regular season are two completely different players. In the playoffs the guy was nailing Ray Allen type of 3 pointers where he shot off balance, in people's faces, basically did anything to get that 3 pointer off and shot it at a high percentage. In the regular season he never took a 3 pointer unless there was absolutely no one coming at him to block his shot within a ten mile radius. You didn't even need to spread the floor out for Kapono; just give him the ball and he found a way to shoot the ball. A player of this caliber is very valuable and at this stage, I might prefer that over what Young has to offer. Though in the long run there is no doubt that I would rather have Young over both of these guys. During draft time we were touting him as the savior of our wing troubles if he were to come here.

Combine Jamario and Jason into one player. Thad will still be far better than that player.

Are you kidding me? Jamario with the best jumper in the league is most likely a superstar. With his athleticism and the shooting kapono brings I could see that player putting up 25/7/3.

All moon needs to be a 17 and 7 player is a solid jumper. The best jumper would make him a superstar. So unless you think thad young is a 35/10/5 player he wouldn't be close.

But yeah thad young is a baller and you gotta take him over moon or kapono.

umm, no.
kapono is one of the best shooters in the league.
moon is one of the most athletic guys in the league.

combine them and you have an offensive juggernaut with above average defense and rebounding. his flaws would be strength and not being able to create his own shot, though. but he still would be far better than thad, lol.

Thaddeus isn't a one-dimensional player that rely on other players to create for him. He's a better hustler and harder worker than Jamario and Kapono combined, on both ends of the floor.

Hardly a comparison, Thaddeus blows both players out of the water.

Superstar? 35/10/5? Don't overdo it, Jamario doesn't have the creating ability to make use of his shooting touch if that's the case so he's still stuck in the same boat as Kapono and every other spot-up shooter. Stick Kapono's touch with Moon's athleticism...and you get James Jones, a borderline starter.

i agree that 35/10/5 is over doing it.

but wtf? combining league's best shooter and one of the better athlete gives you borderline starter?

Thaddeus is great already. He has the potential of a future superstar and is athletic as can be. Kapono would prolly be a better comparison as he is a three point specialist and what not.. Overall i'd take Thad now and future...

combining the league's best 3pt shooter with a good shotblocker SF gives you possbly the best glue-player in the league, ever.

Thad's a better all-round player, hes probably as athletic as Moon but doesnt quite have the stroke Kapono has yet, as I see Young as more of a slasher
