Ha, saw it in the sentinel.

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but the Rays won't........

Dont the Rays have a new ballpark in the works in the bay area? Plus if they come here, where are they gonna play? Disney park is miniscule and the tax payers arent gonna want a new stadium.

If you recall when MLB was talking about contraction, one of the reasons the Rays weren't even in the mix even though they had one of the lowest attendance figures was because they had signed a THIRTY year lease to play at Tropicana field. I doubt they Rays or MLB would want the team to come to Orlando, but I would love it if they did. When I lived in Athens, GA and was only an hour from Turner Field, I used to go to a TON of Braves games.

The new ball park has been taken off any potential referendum vote this fall.

The Rays won't come here. They probably won't even return to Disney next year. Their season ticket base likely doubles next year, which makes the Disney trip less lucrative and also agitates their local fan base.

They have a bunch of years left on their lease, but I believe the debt to be retired is somewhere between $80-110 million. The Rays would have to buy themselves out of the current lease (thus the St Pete. waterfront area being chosen as opposed to Tampa or elsewhere).

A move somewhere is unlikely, but not impossible.

Wow I was only number 88. I would like to see the Rays come to Orlando especially after they have been doing so good this year. Last time I checked (2 weeks ago) they had the best record in MLB.

Orlando lacks a metropolitan area to support a second major team. B&Baseball even failed!

I have heard the Rays have an out clause in sometime in next few years.

It would be very difficult to get a stadium here after all the money being spent on the new Events center and then the Citrus Bowl.

Still, the NFL will never come here with the Bucs likely to try and block any move.

The lightning could happen but they should stay where they are and if they did move, they'd likely move up north.

The Rays are actually the best shot but if a move got serious, Tampa would just match and we'd be a blackmail city.

LOL where was this thread and this 'petition' even 3-5 years ago!?
Now they winning and all of a sudden Orlando wants him?

A state that can even support a wonderful young Marlins team in Miami with all that young talent wants the Rays now to move from Tampa to Orlando?

LOL...we all love a winner huh? I hope those papers don't cross my desk.

Return to Orlando Magic
