John Stockton was picked early for a reason, stability and the pick and roll. During his prime he played the game of basketball with the safest hands as well as the court vision only superstars possess. He may not be as flashy as the other PGs during his time, but he was undeniably the safest PG this game has ever seen. His shooting touch and defensive prowess were also phenomenal as he always ranked near the top in efficiency and defensive stats. On this team, Stockton's main role on offence is run the pick and roll with LeBron or Yao, or use his brilliant court vision to find Ray Allen spotting up for a jumper or a 3-pt shot.

Ray Allen finally got his championship ring this year after a lengthy ringless career for this future hall of famer. Ray possesses perhaps the most lethal 3-point shooting stroke this league has ever seen. With crisp hands and clutchness unrivaled among his peers, Ray is always the type of back-court threat a championship contender needs. Allen's main role on my team is really simple, hide behind a Horace Grant/Yao Ming screen and curl around for a mid-range jumper, or park himself behind the three point line waiting for outlet passes from Yao's double teams, LeBron's epic-slashing, and Stockton's court vision.

LeBron James, we are all witnesses. After almost taking down the eventual champions Boston, LeBron is -the- best player in the current NBA. LeBron possesses an unbelievably chiseled and muscular body, while the harnessing the quickness and athleticism of point guards and power forwards. LeBron is the epitome of a "one man army" as he can single-handedly take over games without breaking a sweat. So far in his career, LeBron has not seen a single defender that can contain him throughout the course of a game, while he has not had the luck of having proper running mates, LeBron can only be stopped via double/triple/quadruple-teams sent by opposing teams to muffle his ferocity and tenacity. Therefore, LeBron's luck will change, as on this team, LeBron's is undeniably my #1 scoring option. He can be a PF when he wants to, he can be a PG when he wants to, he can be a SG when he wants to. He's so versatile and so good with the ball that it doesnt matter what kind of matchup he'll face. LeBron will take his unstoppable slashing game as well as pick-n-roll play to my team and provide as that secondary playmaker to get the ball to either Yao or Allen's hands for a easy bucket, as no team will dare try to defend isolation plays with LeBron.

Horace Grant is my premier post defender, simple and clear. He isnt the "21st century" type of PF where he could dominate scoring inside and out. Instead, Horace is the type of player coaches rave about due to their immense tenacity and defensive awareness. During this two-year prime, Grant helped Jordan and Pippen's Chicago Bulls to 2 straight titles, his personal first two titles as well as his rise to stardom as a defender. Whenever PFs were matched up against Grant, they knew they had better have something up their sleeve or else Grant would simply overpower them in the post and deny a close-range bucket. On this team, Horace's main role on offence is to set bone-jarring picks and screens for Ray Allen who will curl around for a jumper or 3pt shot, as well as crashing the boards for an offensive rebound, since I don't need him to score and focus on attacking, his main job is on defence, where he will guard the strongest frontcourt player the opposing team has, and provide secondary rebounding help to Yao in the post, providing toughness and intimidation.

Yao Ming, the final piece of the starting lineup, and arguably, the most important player of all. Never has the NBA ever seen a 7'6" move so smooth and play so graciously in the post. Tell you right now folks, its hard to do ANYTHING smoothly when you're 7'6, and 310 pounds no less. Yao's arsenal of post moves can rank him among the NBA's all time greats, as his game closely resembles that of the late Wilt Chamberlain and the NBA's all-time points leader, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Yao can play within 3 feet of the net, or 18 feet away from the net, he can dunk on you, he can pop a jumper in your eye. He can block your shot, he can cross you over (well maybe just once). Yao is truly a special player in this league given his size and his mass. On this team, Yao will be the focus point of my offence for LeBron. After the initial entry pass to Yao from either LeBron or Stockton, Yao will post up his defender and muscle his way into the low post, upon drawing a double/triple/quadruple team, Yao's passing ability kicks in and lets him pass to one of 2 options: an open Ray Allen jumper, or a cutting LeBron James, who no one in this league has been able to stop so far. Being 7'6" is already a huge advantage for our team, but having players like Ray Allen and LeBron James will finally "unleash" Yao Ming.
ROTATION:
PG Allen IversonThe 2-year prime stats I will be using for Iverson will be:2004-05: 30.7 PPG, 7.9 APG, .424 FG%, .532 TS%, 10.5 FTA, .835 FT%, 2.4 SPG
2005-06: 33.0 PPG, 7.4 RPG, .447 FG%, .543 TS%, 11.5 FTA, .814 FT%, 1.9 SPG
Allen Iverson is undeniably one of the best volume scorers in the history of the NBA. His ability to get to the rim at will and draw fouls is mind-blowing yet he makes it look so easy time after time. He is a shooting guard trapped in a point guard's body, and is definitely not your run-of-the-mill combo guard, as he possesses the fastest foot speed the NBA's ever seen in a player, as well as the uncanny ability to seal off passing lanes with his quick hands on defence. The knock on Iverson is obviously his tendency to dominate the ball without looking for his teammates, but for a 7th round pick, Iverson's MVP mentality will pay huge dividends on a team that is set on defence, and lacks a sparkplug off the bench. The main role Iverson will hold on my team is to be a pure scorer and floor general of the 2nd unit, I do no not possess any volume scorers on the 2nd unit so it is the perfect opportunity for Iverson, as he will play around 30 minutes per game, about 10 less than his usual average, but he should be able to get in as many shots as he like with the 2nd unit since they do not require touches to be effective. His defence is also underrated, he has great lateral quickness and great instincts, which enable him to intercept entry passes and dishes from the other team's passers, which is an added bonus for my 2nd unit.
SG Kirk HinrichThe 2-year prime stats I will be using for Hinrich will be:2005-06: 15.9 PPG, 6.3 APG, .370 3PT%, 1.2 SPG, .528 TS%
2006-07: 16.6 PPG, 6.3 APG, .415 3PT%, 1.3 SPG, .559 TS%
If there was anything Kirk Hinrich was known for when he was drafted, it was his funky hairstyle and his huge adam's apple. However, he was also a very intriguing guard. He could almost do everything at the guard position, he can shoot, slash, pass, and even be the team's designated wing defender. Hinrich is the perfect complement to Iverson in my backcourt as he provides that steady defence next to a small Iverson and can even move off the ball for an open jumper inside or outside as he has range all the way to the 3pt line. In my system Hinrich will likely average around 7-12 minutes a game, mainly backing up Stockton.
SF Rick FoxThe 2-year prime stats I will be using for Fox will be:2000-01: 9.6 PPG, .393 3PT%, 0.9 SPG, .562 TS%
2001-02: 7.9 PPG, .313 3PT%, 0.8 SPG, .502 TS%
The hometown boy, Rick Fox, was my last pick in the draft, I was surprised how he was forgotten by some for his amazing hustle and defensive ability. The years I've picked for Fox's prime is from the Lakers' three-peat glory days when Fox was their primary wing defender and catch-and-shooter on the wing. Ever since Rick Fox, the Lakers even up until now have lacked that kind of glue-guy on the wing where one could shoot, defend the other team's best wing player, and provide off the ball movement for his more-hailed teammates. Fox was no pushover, weighing in at 230 pounds, his defensive strengths were mainly by sheer force and quickness of the hands and a long wingspan. During his glory days with the Lakers, most teams would often think about Kobe and Shaq first and leave Fox wide open for a jimmy. That is why Fox is the perfect complement on the my 2nd unit, bringing that defensive toughness and outside shooting to a unit dominated by Iverson, who, surprisingly, always needs good shooters and defenders like Fox to be effective.
PF Wes UnseldThe 2-year prime stats I will be using for Unseld will be:1978-79: 10.9 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 4.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.5 BPG .599 TS%, .577 FG%
1979-80: 9.7 PPG, 13.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.7 BPG .543 TS%, .513 FG%
No mistake with this pick for a bench role player, Unseld is without question the GOAT with the outlet pass. For a power forward that stands 6'7, Unseld dominated the league with his tenancious rebounding and tremendous ability to quickly get the ball up the floor to a teammate via the outlet pass. The 2 years I'm using comes only after where the rules state so, and unluckily, right after he won the NBA finals MVP where he was able to shut down Jack Sikma and Paul Silas and keep them off the glass by dominating the boards, averaging over double figures in rebounding. Although these 2 years he no longer became the MVP he was in the early 70s, Unseld still managed to rank among league leaders in rebounds, blocked shots, and assists for a big man. On this team, Unseld will enjoy his role as pure a defensive stopper at the PF position, combining his bone-jarring picks with the steady shooting of Ray Allen as well as the pick-and-roll process with Iverson and Stockton. What separates Unseld from other backup PFs is his ability to send the outlet pass (especially to Iverson) and knock people around in the low post with his massive strength, something that will become very valuable for my 2nd unit.
C Tree RollinsThe 2-year prime stats I will be using for Rollins will be:
1982-83: 7.8 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 4.3 BPG, .510 FG%
1983-84: 8.6 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 3.6 BPG, .518 FG%
Another solid addition to my team, Tree Rollins' defensive awareness and blocking ability got him the distinction of All-NBA First Team and Second Team Defence awards in 82-83 and 83-84, an honor that clearly ranks him at the upper echelon of defensive centers, so few and precious in the history of basketball. Although he's no giant compared to my starter Yao Ming, he provided intimidation on both ends of the floor with his teeth-shattering picks and roof-shaking blocks. That being said, his role on my team will be exactly that, provide about a dozen minutes of rest for Yao Ming (depending on situation of course), and provide interior defence as the anchor against some of the best bigmen in basketball.
