Adding Dooling..more contracts?

Post#1 » by brandonq21 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:09 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... d_dooling/

Although most of our contracts will be expiring right in time for the big 2010 free agency, what are we going to do with them all?

After signing Najera and Hayes we currently have 15 players under contract. Not including CDR. Which will mean 16 players. Adding Dooling will leave us with 17 players under contract and Bostjan Nachbar, Nenad Krstic, and Darrel Armstrong still in free agency. I think resigning Krstic will be a wise decision but I don' t see while we are still going after a combo guard.

Personally I wasn't so sure why we even signed Hayes. Najera makes sense because he is a veteran leader.

Hayes is a solid player with a nice jump shot and isn't completely worthless on defense. He can play the 2 and 3 positions and is basically Boki with a better shot/better defense. It's an incredible pick up at the price we got him as long as he's healthy (which he proved last year). As of right now he's the starting 3 and I'm comfortable with that. He feels that he'll get minutes here (which is true) and has a lot to prove so he'll be playing for a long term deal over the next 2 seasons. I also feel we brought him in as a worst case scenario. We are trying to make a trade for another starter caliber SF or an up and coming SF...but if we couldn't get anything done, we're cool with starting Hayes and may try to address it at the deadline/next offseason.

I would love to add Dooling. Him or Pargo would be solid. They're similar to Harris so our 1st and 2nd units would be run in a similar style unlike the past few years.

As far as more contracts, I'm really intrigued to see who the hell we're trading for. The more I think about it, the more I'd love to go after Artest. Even if he's a rent a player, he's playing for his long term deal and with our roster, really has a chance to tear some S$*# up. He's a New York guy (Go Red Storm) and I think we would realistically have a chance at resigning him. It all depends on what young guy Sacto wants. I don't think they'll care about Marcus. They'll probably demand Sean or Josh. I don't know which one I'd rather give up if I had to.

Regardless, the next month and a half will continue to be pretty active for us.

Good Job Prelude,

On top of that we still want to be a better shooting team. Also, we are looking to improve our perimeter D. Dooling with CDR may go a long way in making us a very good defensive team.

Signing Dooling would solidy the pg spot & the perimeter defense.
He'd also help Harris' game by competing in practice plus competition for the starting job.

Dooling would be a nice pick up we need a 3rd pg incase devin or marcus get hurt.We gotta get rid of swift, hassel and ager. They should sign kristic to a little deal if they could but boki and DA can go.

Is KVHs contract up?

KVH has a small buyout which is what will happen if we can't trade it.

I am hoping either Krstic takes the qualifying offer or goes to Europe at this point so we can retain his rights.

Dooling will NEVER be 3rd string behind Marcus

And I agree we need to try to move Swift/Hassel and Ager pretty bad, but add Marcus to that list. Not denying Marcus has talent, but he's never gonna get it going in our system and it'd be best for him and the organization if we can move him.

What exactly was the qualifying offer for Krstic, does anyone know?

Didn't realize we liked this guy THAT much.

I like him as a player and think he should fit in well with our group. Thorn and Kiki are probably smart enough such to make the deal have a team option for the 3rd year or have it unguaranteed. Hopefully.

Well Dooling would be a good aqusition . We need somebody reliable that can backup the one and the two and Dooling can exactly do that.

We can't play Carter and Harris too many minutes . CDR is a rookie and Marcus really is not all that reliable.

Would give us 16 signed players so there will be more moves.

Assuming the link is true, you guys will love Dooling.. we did too. The only thing sometimes is that he'll take some ill advised shots.. but they mostly go in. Hes a great defender and always hustles.

I love Dooling and I think this is a great pick up but once again I think Thorn and Kiki are about to make 2 GIGANTIC mistake's if they trade Nenad and Marcus away.
Both guys are very very special young players who are just recovering from injuries and when they were healthy showed signs/flashes of greatness.
Nenad will return to his 18 and 7 form (and might even improve on it) and Marcus really reminds me of a young Steve Nash he has something that's extremley rare these days and that's a Kidd/Steve Nash like court vision, need I remind you guys that Billups and Nash were either considered average-solid or underacheiver's until a certain point in their career's?

If anything our terrible young player development should be blamed (hate to bring the old horse but here it goes...) on Frank AKA Opie.
Seriously I'd be fine if lets say one rookie didnt pan out well but Frank wasnt able to make a single Net rookie work, even when the rookies gave him every sign in the world that they are ready (Sean williams in the first half of the season and Marcus Williams last season) he'd just completley ignore their accomplishments, shatter their confidence like a samurai sword and insert Collins and Mallik Allan into the starting lineup instead (PS I loved both players but there's no point in ignoring that any sane coach would see them as starting material).

Well we're still quite thin on guard i wouldn't be too sure about Marcus going out since Dooling isn't all that much of a playmaker.

Also not 100% sure about Nenad's departure since we have no veteran Center .

I'm pretty sure the Nets will look to get rid of Ager , Swift and Hassel though. They don't fit in any case.
Sadly be probably need to add something since i can't see anybody lining up to get them ...

Dont worry about number of players on roster. You can bring 20 to Training Camp - and must cut down to 15 only on Oct 31 (start of season)

Bulls have room to take on a couple players. Consider trading Swift & Marcus for Nocioni - or 3 smaller contracts (Marcus, Ager, Hassel maybe) for Nocioni.

I mention Nocioni because various reports have mentioned that Nets are interested in him and he is not essential to the Bulls. He plays both PF & SF

good pick up, imo just that tenacity on defense hes gonna bring on the perimeter will be something we are lacking so nice way to fill the need, good pickups so far cept maybe najera im not a big fan of him.

I'm quite sure the Nets' interest in Nocioni ended the moment they signed Najera at a much cheaper price.
