OJ Mayo: The Next One?

Post#1 » by memgrizzlies » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:16 am

OJ Mayo has been very promising in the Summer League averaging 18.5 PPG. He has had amazing plays, including his slam over 3 Hornets' players. So I ask you...OJ Mayo: Is he the next LeBron, Kobe, maybe Jordan?!?! I think we all need to keep an eye on him this season. He's not just good, but he's good with the media and the fans. Tim Duncan is very good, but who wants to buy tickets to see Tim Duncan? OJ Mayo has the explosive ability and the fans love him. How good do you think he will be? A decent two guard? Maybe one All-Star game? Multiple All-Star Games? MVP awards? Hall of Famer?

Yea, he just needs to drive the ball more often. He has plenty of time to learn.

I think he will be a sick player, All star for sure. Im thinking he could potentially be an Arenas type player, who will give you 25, 4, 6 a game. Only question though, will he play the point and be your scoring point ala Arenas or will he move to the 2 and be somewhat undersized? Either way he will be a player no doubt

im thinking more along the lines of Joe Johnson or Brandon Roy ..i think superstar is far fetched, theres only like 5 superstars in the league and three of them were drafted 10 years ago(Kobe, Garnett, Duncan)

If he works at it he may very well be a superstar. Let's hope he has the work ethic of Kobe Bryant. But he will definately be an all star.

I'm not saying that Mayo won't be a good player, far from it. But if you're basing this on his performance on the Summer League action, I have to disagree.

I remember last year the Golden State Warriors had a player named Marco Belinelli and he was tearing up Summer League with an avg of 22 ppg or something.

Never heard anything special from him during the regular season. So let's just wait till the season begins before drawing any conclusions.

Why are people doubting Mayo? He's been essentially NBA ready since his junior year in high school

Did you know that "mayo" in mandarin means "nothing"?

I think worst-case scenario OJ will be a Kerry Kittles type of player. I honestly think the kid will have multiple all-star appearances to his name just because of his work ethic and basketball IQ.

It's doubting him to say that some summer league games won't determine whether or not he'll be a star in the league.

He's been hated on forever everywhere it seems and I never got why. I think he'll be a superstar for Memphis and he was one of my favorite prospects in the past draft.

I think OJ Mayo will be a great player in this league, but you had to have been kidding when you said that. If you weren't, then you need to learn that summer league doesn't mean anything because most of the players in the summer league will never play in the NBA. The NBA is a whole another animal. Michael Beasley averaged 19.6 ppg in the summer league, but I'm not sitting here wondering if he will be the next Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, or Karl Malone.
