Re: Darius Miles a Potential Sun?
vet teams can typically take a chance on players with troubled pasts, Boston did it in the draft as well. The thought process is that the vets will keep these guys in check. I don't know that are vets are vocal enough to shut someone up though. Pierce and Garnett are more vocal leaders, than Shaq, Nash or Hill and especially Amare who is somewhat passive agressive in his attitude. Its definately possible though.

Re: Darius Miles a Potential Sun?
I was a big fan of Darius Miles when he was on the Clippers with Q-Rich, I was sad to see him get injured so badly. I personally would give him a shot if he has an impressive workout with us, I know our medical staff is top-notch so maybe this is what he needs to prove his doctors and Portland wrong. Definitely not give him more then he is worth, have him fill our final roster spot, maybe he will impress. I just want to throw this vid in here because this is one of my favorite Jordan commercials, and I'll admit it, I used to do the horns when I played because of them haha.

If we're going to get a 6'8" to play some point we should use Hill or Diaw first...that being said, if he has his head on straight and is willing to work for his minutes then sure, he's a low risk/high-ish reward type guy

I partially want to sign him solely to put a small dent in POR's cap space
.

it would be a low risk move for the suns... its not like they have that many options with their cap being so screwed up...

I'm sorry, but this is so awesome a post that I have to respond to it. If Pritchard gets this from Kerr, he hangs up the phone, laughs, and calls the league office. After he files a tampering complaint, David Stern then fines Robert Sarver and takes away every Phoenix first-rounder for the next five years, basically killing off any chance of the Suns rebuilding. So, as Suns fans cry that Stern is screwing their team over again, they slowly come to the realization that they blew a chance at contending for a championship in the next five years...for Darius Miles.
I don't pretend to know either the cap ramifications or Miles' knee's health, but I do know that Miles failed Nate McMillan's conditioning test two years ago and I suspect he wouldn't be able to pass that today. Even if Phoenix wanted to sign Miles on the basis of basketball merit, it would be a terrible signing and Terry Porter wouldn't play him.

That's considered tampering?

Giving Miles another chance has been brought up on three different boards I've seen, and I have to say that I have never seen any topic generate so many fairy tales (to be kind) in all my life.
David Stern does not dare get in the middle of a player getting another chance, if an owner wants to pay him. If he did, he'd be in a monsterous fight with the NBA Player's Union, and for what? To defend rich owner Paul Allen's injury exemption?!?

shrink, I was referring to the threat that poster mentioned as tampering, not actually signing him. But if the Blazers organization is to be believed, his knee will not be in playing shape for this coming season.

Re: Darius Miles a Potential Sun?
Tampering is when a player or team directly or indirectly entices, induces or persuades anybody (player, general manager, etc.) who is under contract with another team to negotiate for their services
http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#91
How would threatening be considered "tampering?"
Anyway, there's no way the threat would work anyway, because Miles has drawn interest from a couple teams already, and POR couldn't pay off everybody (especially after the line grew longer after the first pay-off. Also, despite what the "unbiased" Pritchard says, David Stern is also not going to rush to fight the Players Union to protect Paul Allen's disabled player exception either.
POR's only hope is that Miles knee is STILL messed up so bad that he can't play (again, something the "unbiased" Pritchard has been saying). If it was still messed up, its surprising that Miles workout in BOS was considered "impressive."

Still that's POR's last, best shot of maintaining the disabled player exception.
