I know what the '01 Sixers were... I have no idea how good the '09 Sixers will be (I do believe the '08 Sixers would be last year's team). For me, I think '01 wins in 6 but the fact that it's even a discussion tells me this has been a great off-season.

Only reason it is close is Larry Brown. If you swap coaches, 08 win in 4.

I think Iggy is much easier to build a team around, better defender, more efficient, etc. Iverson is able to create a shot for himself or another player at will which was HUGE, but extremely difficult to build around.

I disagree, I just don't think Iggy is even good enough to build a team around. He's a piece to a team, a very important one, but he's not a franchise guy.

and yet he has been built around, unless we're going to argue about the meaning of the phrase. He was the first big piece of the puzzle, and the rest have now been filled in. You have a ~20 mil guy who dominates the ball, can't guard the position he's best at, couldn't get along with coaches and several teammates, doesn't attend practices versus someone who's going to be a 10-13 mil guy only now, passes well, rebounds well, forces turnovers, position versatile, doesn't have to be a #1, first to the arena type of guy.

the choice is clear for me on who I'd rather start a franchise with on my team.

Well we probably would have to argue the meaning because I don't think they are building around him. You build around franchise players, Igoudala isn't a franchise player. Iverson in his prime was a borderline franchise player. You don't build your team around borderline all-stars. If they are building around Igoudala I don't think he's still waiting for a contract.

. He was the first big piece of the puzzle, and the rest have now been filled in

I disagreee with both of those statements. One Brand is a bigger piece than Igoudala and for all the pieces to be filled in, you'd have to say they are a championship contender and that's something this team isn't. Igoudala is a third option to me on a championship team.

And despite all those negatives for Iverson, I'd still rather build around him. He's the better basketball player.

the choice is clear for me on who I'd rather start a franchise with on my team.

Then we disagree. I build a team around a guy who is a franchise level player, Andre Igoudala isn't that to me. I want the guy on my team, but I don't break the bank and I don't attempt to build aroud him. He's a compliment, not the cornerstone.

I wasn't claiming that Iggy was a better basketball player, just that it's much easier to form a good team around Andre Iguodala than Allen Iverson for the aforementioned reasons.

nor did I claim that Brand wasn't a bigger piece of the puzzle than Iggy... just that Iggy was the first important piece.

They aren't a championship contender at this second.. but I see no reason to believe they can't be with this current nucleus in 2-3 years.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. To me Iguodala isn't even good enough to attempt to build around. Like I said, he's a compliment, not a cornerstone.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
