Favre Asks For Release
As Per ESPN in the last 30 minutes.
Who could he sign with, and how much of a chance do we have?

Re: Favre Asks For Release
since we don't exactly have a great qb core right now, it would seem logical to go after him
but how would all the fans react after having cheered against him all these years

Re: Favre Asks For Release
it will be weird seeing him in another uniform, especially if he stays in the division (lots of bad qb's)
as for who would go after him at least probably half the teams in the league could use him
gruden would probably love to have him

Yeah, I suspect Tampa Bay as well. Carolina is another good guess.

I hated Favre because he was with the Pack. I didn't have the Packers because of Favre. Put differently, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If Favre came here, you could bet he'd want to annihiliate the Packers, which is fine with me.
All that said, I can't picture Chilly going after him because his pride says develop TJax. I say screw that, get the HoF QB & let him help you win a SB. You combine Favre with AD & the offensive line plus our dramatically improved D-Line & I think you've got the start of something special.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
if brett gets released and wants to come here, they have to do it, you don't just turn away a HOF qb, especially if you have the qb's we do
jackson is young and could benefit from learning under farve

I'd find it pretty easy to turn away John Elway or Fran Tarkenton or Terry Bradshaw right now. That's about where Brett could be right now. He looked awful for two years in a row before last year, where he was fine but over rated. No one knows what Brett will show up, and taking him in now would mean giving up on TJax for good. I'm not saying I still wouldn't take Brett, but it's not automatic, there's things to think about.

Don't we know? I don't buy into that notion. What proof do we have that Favre's lost anything off his fastball? They've got reports saying that he's looking just as good as he did last season, which is one of his best.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
wow...wow...
From what I would guess it is us, Jets, Skins or Panthers. If Peter King is right that Favre wants to be here because of our Off Coord then we would be the top choice.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
right now I would seriously doubt if the bridge can be rebuild with #4 and the packers front office. This is seen in the stupid idea that they would have him in as a back-up after one of his best years (and if he keeps that contract I think it is near 12mil)
But, to be honest there is a large school of thought within the organization that we are better off without Favre. I am unsure what will happen.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
i also think the bridge has been burned between farve and GB
farve wants to come back and he wants the freedom to go where he wants, reasoning for being released, but i don't think the packers want him to go anywhere (specifically within the division) and since it seems unlikely he'll play with them, a trade might be the only way farve plays

Re: Favre Asks For Release
Favre will put the heat on. Like I said, 24 hours after submitting the paperwork he is either released or on the active roster.
But...who would make a trade? It would have to be a team Favre wants to go to. So lets say the jets ask for the trade. Favre could simply say no if he does not want to go there.
Only thing to say is this could be fun. I am still unsure if I want him or not.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
Hmm...
Add a future HOF QB coming off of a great season to a team featuring a top running attack, solid o-line, adequate receivers, and a stellar defense? Dare I say superbowl???
Yet somehow, something just doesn't feel right and I can't quite put it into words. I have mixed emotions. Part of me thinks the Vikes can make it to the SB without Favre, going under the radar similar to the NYG last season, and the attention we'd accumulate with Favre on the roster would only serve to hinder the team's chances. The other part of me thinks Favre comes in hungry, opens up the offense, and ignites a spark in our players...All of which = super bowl.
As for what deeney0 said, I don't think Favre's arrival would mean giving up on TJax for good. I wouldn't expect Farve to be around that long (though I don't think anyone, including Favre himself, knows the answer to that), and I think TJax and JDB could really benefit from learning from one of the best for a year or two or ...
Here's the latest from Childress and the Vikes:

With everything that's been said, I have a hard time seeing GB let Favre go the Vikes in any form. Let the roller coaster ride continue...

Here's the latest from Childress and the Vikes:
During an interview on WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, Childress was asked if he would prefer current starter Tarvaris Jackson over Favre because of the time he and his staff have put into developing Jackson.
"I feel like Tarvaris is continuing to climb that ladder," Childress said. "He's only a third-year quarterback, so you're basically going to see third-year things from him. But I like what I've seen from him so far."

Re: Favre Asks For Release
Reusse said on the Sports Show tonight that the Pack have played this perfectly. I vehemently disagree but that isn't even the main point. Even if they handle it perfectly, they've already lost the NFC North title.
The veterans will want Favre because he gives them the best shot at winning NOW. The coaches clearly want to move on. That locker room is already split. Now think of what it'll be like if Favre returns & beats out Rodgers. Worse yet, imagine the Pack telling Favre that that they won't release him & that he'll be their backup. Can you say explosion?
Nothing good comes of this for the Pack. PERIOD.
That's why I'm predicting that the Vikings win the NFC North with an 11-5 record.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
i doubt he'll be happy with the backup spot, if he's coming back he'll want to play, so he'll probably re-retire and try it again next next
and rev, does farve have any kind of leverage besides just being who he is, in determining what possible trades he'll accept? (hoping that made any sense at all)

I think he'd be in the same situation next year. If he wants to play he's best off coming back and forcing the issue. It would be tough for Rodgers to succeed if he's constantly looking over his shoulder at Favre. Favre will start somewhere this season.

He's got 3 years left on his contract. If he waits, it's too late.

Re: Favre Asks For Release
And it's unfortunate that it's come to this. I'm sure there are a lot of fans that are thinking, from what they've heard, that Brett is a traitor, he wants to go play elsewhere. That's not true. I was told that playing in Green Bay was not an option. Regardless of what you hear from up there. I'm not making it up. I was told that playing in Green Bay was not an option. Then I was told that we can't envision you playing for another team as well.
What does that tell me? It tells me, 'We don't want you playing, period.'
so the packers just want him to retire
this should get interesting
