Clipps Making An Offer to Iggy?!

Post#1 » by ClipperDomination » Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:13 pm

From Wiretap:

Clippers Could Be Making An Offer To Iguodala

Philadelphia were able to steal Elton Brand away from the L.A. Clippers, and now will the Clippers attempt to steal Andre Iguodala away from the Sixers?

According to Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia News, the Clippers have been in contact with Iguodala after coach Mike Dunleavy pushed for the talented small forward.

"He's among the guys we're considering, but we're still deliberating exactly what we want to do," said Dunleavy. "We're interested in all good players, and Iguodala is a very good player."

"We're not going to hide, but we're not going to publicize it each time we make contact with a player we think could help us," Dunleavy added. "We're trying to figure out the best way to get people to come, who to go with, who would be the best fit."

The Clippers have already met with Josh Smith from the Hawks.

Both Smith and Iguodala are restricted free agents, giving Atlanta and Philadelphia the opportunity to match any offer sheet that either player signs with another team.

The Clippers have about $12 million in salary-cap space after losing Brand and Corey Maggette. They have already signed Baron Davis this off season.

I don't understand Iguodala's appeal to a team already set at SF, but...an eye for an eye I guess. I wouldn't be mad if they pulled this off.

^ I would start Iggy at the SG...we'd have a damn tall lineup.

If we sign Iggy then I know we're really gonna try and get Randolph also. I'd rather that we try and sign a PF, not a SG.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

That would be my personal #1 scenario. But...

The Clips have to first sign Iggy to an offer sheet, then trade for Randolph (pick(s) and matching salaries). If they get Randolph first for a pick as reportedly discussed, then we won't have money to offer Iggy.

Hmm. Rather go after Haslem than Randolph.

You need Randolph, not Haslem. Haslem does not give you the scoring you need in the West, unless you think a rookie or 2nd year player like Thornton can.

I had you guys near the finals if you retained Brand with Baron Davis and your draft of Eric Gordon and then Al Thornton who will be a Superstar one day...

But this might end up being good for your team now that you have Marcus Camby...Now you have someone to defend Bynum and Gasol...somewhat.

Either Josh Smith or Iggy would be a great addition.

We don't have the cap space to sign Josh or Iggy. I think we have like 3-4 mil left now.
