Starting SG and Depth: Outside Shooting, Strong Man Defense, size to matchup with bigger guards, Rebounding and Size/Strength and athleticism..

OFFICIAL PICKUPS

Mickael Pietrus F/G ht:6-6 wt:215 age:26 exp:5

Player output Ratings:
9.1 as a 30 minute starter (+1.4)
(10.8ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.51spg, 1.1apg, 0.98bpg, 1.4 3FGM)
10.6 as a 18 reserve (+2.5)

Details:
Status: Signed as an Unrestricted Free Agent.
Role Projection: Starting SG and spend time at SF. 26-31 minutes per game.
Contract Details: 4 year 22 million. 5.5 per.

07-08 Regular Season Stats:
19.9mpg 7.2ppg 3.7rpg 0.7apg 1.00spg 0.6bpg 0.73topg 3.0fpg 2.8 attempted threes @ .361% 1.5 free throws attempts at .673%.

07-08 Projected Stats
12.7ppg 5.6rpg 1.3apg 1.56spg 1.01bpg 1.74topg 3.8fpg
4.5 3ptatt on 353% shooting and 3.7 free throw attempts at .662%.

Scouting Report:
System Pros: Very Athletic guard that can come up with plays on the defensive end from the 2/3 position as witnessed by his amazing 8.8 rebounds, 2.41 steals and 1.57 blocks (all per48). Great offensive rebounder at 2.4 per game. Can come up with some truley spectacular shot blocks. Attempts a good number of 3pt fg's and makes them at a reasonable rate of 35%. These are traits SVG desires out of his SG spot due to the make up of this team. Doesnt take a ton of shots at 14.3 per48.
Will not turn 27 until the Feb 2009.

System Cons: Unproven as an NBA starter albeit he at least has the excuse of being beat out by players such as Jason Richardson, Monte Ellis and Steven Jackson. Its unseen if he can play much more than 30+ minutes because he gets into heavy foul trouble due to his physical defensive style. For all his athleticism he doesnt get to the FT line as much as you would expect at 3.6 attempts (per48), which at this point is a good thing because he is a very poor shooter from the line at 66% for his career. More bad FT shooters arent a ok thing on a team that features Dwight Howard. Shooting is inconsistant at best. Needs to still fine tune his offensive game.

Does anyone know if the Magic have recently or are planning to bring in any new free agents for a visit here?

Jason Williams Still Talking To Magic

Point guard Jason Williams' agent, Dan Tobin, said Monday that he is still talking with the Magic about Williams filling the club's back-up role behind Jameer Nelson.

Tobin added, however, "I wouldn't say anything is imminent."

Williams, the ex-Gator who helped the Miami Heat win a title, has expressed interest in playing for the Magic.

"There has been interest on both sides," said Tobin by cell phone from Las Vegas, where he is attending an NBA summer league. "We're talking to them and several other teams.

"Orlando has interest and of course the coach (Stan Van Gundy, ex-Heat coach) is familiar with Jason. Jason would be just a great piece for a team that's close to being a real contender."

The Magic have offered Keyon Dooling --- who played point guard and shooting guard the past three seasons in Orlando --- a two-year deal woth $3.8 million.

Dooling, 28, is trying to strike a better deal elsewhere.

Neon thanks for mentioning Haislip again. He is a legit NBA player now. Someone needs to give this guy another chance. But he can prob make alot more money in Europe.

I am hoping for the Critt trade first and foremost, and then comes Williams. If neither than Arroyo please.

As for more bigs, I'm actually content. I think Cook is good enough to get playing time, and Battie and Gortat round out a nice big rotation. So as long as Lewis is the starting 4 the Magic are fine on that front.

I don't see many needs left at all really, and I am really looking forward to next season. Building on a 52 win team by upgrading the weakest position and bringing back more depth and the 4/5 is huge. The Magic will be legit contenders next season.

the front court is fine as is as long as there aren't an injuries. Otis's supposed interest in guys like Dorsey and White makes me feel that he will make some moves to address the lack of depth there.

REALISTIC '08 REMAINING FREE AGENT TARGETS:

THe press reports that Armstrong and Doleac are in the mix and that Williams is still in constant conversation with his agent about Orlando.

Depending on how the Bogans for Crittenton trade works out, Armstrong and Doleac might be the final two pieces to this off season.

The roster depth would be:
Nelson, Crittenton, Armstrong
Pietrus, Redick, Lee
Turkoglu
Lewis, Cook, Gortat
Howard, Battie, Doleac, Augustine.

That 15th roster slot could be kept open to sign a wing or a PG, dependent on future in season injuries.

Same here. A trade for Critt, then the BAE to Doleac, and a vet min deal for DA. That would make the offseason picture perfect, given our assets and what was available. The only thing that would make me happier is an ideal trade for Hedo, but regardless Otis would get a solid A grade from me with those moves.

I thought Foyle wanted more PT thus he opted out. Do you think he's coming back to be further down the depth chart (assuming that we are grooming Gortat and to a lesser extent Auggie)?

I dont know for sure, I have heard nothing about Foyle outside of the article, but it sounded as though it was a wrap...so I assumed he was coming back...

either way, if that is what we look like, I would like to bring in another SF or PF for depth, Byars would work if possible or maybe an Earl Barron of something, someone who would take the minimum...

Nelson/Critt/Johnson >>> Nelson/Dooling/Arroyo
MP/Lee/JJ >>>>>>> Evans/Bogans/Dooling
Hedo/Lewis/MP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hedo/Lewis/Evans/Bogans
Lewis/Battie/Cook >>>>>>> Lewis/Cook/Auggie
Dwight/Gortat/Battie >>>> Dwight/Foyle

Especially if we are able to get Critt this has been a GREAT off season. Right now i would give this season a solid B but if we get Critt i would give it a A. Good job Otis

Updated pg 1. Added Johnson profile to signings, Crittendon profile to Trade Targets, and added Armstrong and Doleac to possible free agent signings.

If the Crittenton trade goes down this could be one of the most well done offseasons this organization has done in a while... I have wanted Crittenton since I heard he was declaring for the draft. I thought we would have a chance to nab him off of the lakers hands for a future first due to them having a youngin' in Farmar..But now, the hope can become reality.. I have also wanted Pietrus for a few years..I am LOVING this offseason, and now the fact we picked up a 6'3" Vet PG wow...Once again if the Crit trade goes down, I will find Otis and hug him...and hug anyone that comes near me..

Nelson/Crit/Johnson
Pietrus/Lee/JJ
Hedo
Lewis/Cook/Auggie/Foyle
Howard/Battie/Gortat

that's pretty darn solid..But I am still curious at how the SG/SF rotation is going to work... Will JJ be first off of the bench, and Pietrus be Slide over for Hedo? We all of a sudden have a pretty deep backcourt/ SF rotation.... Man I cannot wait til this year starts!!!
