The quarter billion dollar brand spanking new arena is why they're staying, that and the massive cost anyone would incur in trying to move the team because of the massive buyout it would cost anyone in breaking the lease agreement tying them to this city until at least 2016.

As it sits right now, the buyout would cost more than the team would. The only way to break it early is there is an attendace cluase but the city has already said it would just buy that amount of tickets to keep the team here which is BY FAR cheaper than losing the team.

The city hasn't embraced the losing.
They have embraced the team.

Next year we'll have a good young core in...
Gay
Mayo
Conley
Arthur
Gasol

And almost 40, that's forty 4 - 0 Million in capspace.

That much capspace along with our solid young core will buy relevence.

Our GM is a genius.

see post above.

Thank GawD, we got rid or non-franchise player Pau Gasol, let the Lakers pay him the 47 million owed to him by the giant mistake made by Jerry West.
We just signed his younger brother for 3 years only 10 million, that's a freakin bargain.

Memphis has more young talent than Atlanta.

Calling Chris Wallace a genuis is mind boggling ....

Having 40 Millions of Capspace means nothing . Just because you have the Capspace doesn't mean anybody really good is coming

Ian O’Connor writes in the Record, the most frightening scenario for an NBA executive is clearing out money under the salary cap and then finding nobody worthwhile to take it.

“That happened to Chicago, after Michael Jordan,” Thorn said. “They had significant cap room and they tried to give it to Tracy McGrady, and they tried to give it to (Kevin) Garnett at different times and it didn’t work.

“That’s the misnomer about having cap space … . If you have a team that’s just not very good, to think that you are going to get a top quality free agent is kind of pie in the sky.”

Your young core looks fine on paper but other the Rudy Gay nobody has shown much or has played a single NBA minute . Just throwing out a young core without any veteran leadership doesn't work . You don't even have any kind of veteran leadership on your team . Your veteran players are Antoine Walker , Greg Buckner and Marko Jaric thats just awful .

If you don't have veteran leadership on the court you better have that on the sideline but Iavaroni is not that.

I don't think Memphis is going anywhere without some quality character veterans on the team or in the coaching staff.

Having Talent is one with , developing the right chemistry in your team is another. And in my mind chemistry is more important then pure talent.

Josh Smith can't play PF in the west. He's a great athlete and I like his game, but he wouldn't put Memphis over the top playing PF (or any position for that matter), and they already have Rudy Gay. Next...

I'm beginning to wonder about the availability of Josh Smith in the eyes of the rest of the league.

The Warriors, Clippers and Sixers were all rumored to be interested. The Sixers went with Brand instead, which is somewhat understandable on its own, but then the Warriors opted for Maggette/Turiaf over Smith, and now the Clippers have been linked to Iggy and Okafor.

Maybe the consensus is Atlanta will match whatever anyone can come up with, but it seems like teams are turning away from Smith, and its not because they don't want him.

Well you would have to play a lot of money to a guy who may not be a franchise player. He still is utterly inconsistent offensively and he might make it up with defense in teh future but the kind of development that would take... it's a big risk.

And with Okafor you have the injury concerns.

If I was MEM I'd take another year and see if they can find a biger fish.

They probuly won't find anyone better then Gasol via free agency though. Hopefully they can get lucky in the draft.

Seriously its ridiculous the love affair some of the Memphis fans have the Marc Gasol. The guy hasn't proven a thing and theres a reason he was picked so late in the draft a couple years ago. You have false images of him in your head that because he's Gasol's brother, he is just as good as Gasol, and that just isn't the case. His highest potential is an average starter.
