are you kidding me
basically just cut out the major weak link and put in another powerhouse, sure power might balance out later but putting together a division when they all just had 51+ wins the previous season might not be the best thing

why does the northwest get a division when they only have one team??
if anything just make each conf. 2 divisions, if any at all. they serve no real purpose anyway

I actually like that scheme. Minnesota has never really fit in the NW division anyway, and at least this way, they get a geographic rival in Milwaukee.

Not sure why you would break up Chicago and Milwaukee from the same division?

No, I'm not kidding. Look at the map. That makes the most sense geographically.

And as for there being 5 strong teams, yeah, I saw that. But the Suns are in decline, the Mavs don't look like contenders anymore, the Spurs go where an aging Duncan leads them and Houston is still a question mark. Yeah, the Hornets look good for the future.

And unless Stern screws another city out of a team, requiring another shift, this could last decades. The current balance of power does shift every now and then, so I'm not worried.

Divisions shouldn't take team strengths into account at all. It should be geographical or there's no point, good teams will suck next decade and suck teams will be good.

I say get rid of divisions all togeher. Just have East vs. West. It makes much more sense.

While I tend to agree that divisions are pointless and useless, it just feels weird to get rid of them. Keeping track of 5 teams in your division is one thing. Keeping track of 15 randomly assembled teams (let's face it, it's not clearly divided East/West) is more of an obstacle.

As a Magic fan, adding NO to the Southeast actually interests me. It makes life a lot harder, sure, but it could a form a great rivalry between young teams.

Plus our uniforms look almost identical.

Never understood how Washington fit into the southeast...

I thought that you play inter-divisional games 4 times a year, inter-conference teams 3 times a year, and everyone else 2 times a year?

Stop putting Portland in our division! :( :( :(

If that was the case, each team would only play

16 intra-divisional,
30 intra-conference and
30 inter-conference games a year, or
--
76 games in total

Which would actually be a good thing and cut down on some back-to-backs.

But, in reality, to make the 82 games, teams play some of the teams in the same conference, but not the same division, 4 times and others 3 times. What I don't know is how that's decided.
