James Jones: Rodgers has a stronger arm than Favre.

Post#1 » by Neusch23 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 1:38 pm

I was watching the local news this morning (I live in Green Bay) and they were interviewing players. James Jones, in a very no joking manor answered the question of how different is it catching passes from Rodgers vs Favre, he said that Aaron has the much stronger arm.

I don't believe it, since it is well documented on the amount of fingers favre broke.

However they then brought it to Rodgers and he responded that he wants to get the ball out quick, and get it to his recievers as quick as he can.

That's pretty funny.

But how hard he throws really doesn't matter. Joe Montana didn't have a strong arm. Andre Ware did.

I was hoping that they would then cut to Donald Driver with the same question, since we know Favre broke a couple of his fingers over the years, but in true po-dunk journalism, it didn't happen.

Rodgers lack of a big arm was a myth that's somehow become a fact. He's got a huge arm and it was raved about prior to the draft.

I was listening to the Huddle with John Clayton, who was up in Green Bay last week.

"Rodgers has got a huge arm" he said.

"It's a cannon".

I'm sure Rodgers arm strength is fine. Stronger than Favre... I kind of doubt it :)

But as I said above arm strength doesn't matter, accuracy matters.

Well, who are we to say that JJ is wrong? It's not like any of us are up there catching passes from these guys...

Well I asked Jennings about it last night. He just smiled and shook his head.

James Jones wasn't the only receiver to say this. I know that at least one other receiver (I thought it was Jennings) said that there were certain throws that Rodgers throws harder than Favre. Driver said something similar as well.

Keep in mind that, as far as James Jones is concerned, he can only speak from his experience, which is a young Aaron Rodgers entering his prime and an older Favre in the twilight of his career.

Big difference between a mini camp wearing a red jersey and a real game.

We'll see. As I said I'm sure his arm strength is fine but it doesn't really matter.

Ole noodle arm Rodgers got the nickname "The Human Juggs Machine" from his receivers.

Its funny to those of us that have defended him since we drafted him, eh DB?

I remember studying the draft that year and Rodgers was 2nd to Jared Lorenzen in the speed of his throw, 61mph to my memory vs 63 by the Tank. No QB has topped that speed since then to my best knowledge.

I was extatic when Rodgers fell to us, and think we will do just as well w/ Rodgers as we would w/ Brett.

But we should have taken Justin Tuck and Justin Miller instead of Collins and Murphy

What makes you believe that Rodgers is an inaccurate passer?

I'm not concerned about Aaron not being accurate. Rodgers just needs fans to be fair to him and accept that even though he won't be a rookie, it will be his first time starting games. With that might come some mistakes, but i suspect there will be some fans who will jump all over Rodgers if there are any early struggles simply because Thompson/McCarthy made the decision that they did.

That's bogus and unfair to Rodgers, but it is what it is and thankfully he seems confident enough that he'll be able to handle the adversity that likely will come with replacing not only a legend, but also with some fans who never will treat him fairly after how this offseason shook out.

I don't think MD was questioning Rodger's accuracy, he was more saying that him being accurate is more important than him being able to throw 75 yards from his knees like JaMarcus Russell.

I believe that Rodgers is an accurate passer. I believe that if you want to put it to a spot, and get it there quick, that is the tougher skill. Brett is good at that. Rodgers, we really don't have a lot of history to go on. At the same age, I highly doubt he is any where near Brett, but now, I would say that it wouldn't surpise me if they were close, but I would still bet on Brett, and if I am wrong, that is all I am!

Exactly. Joe Montana didn't have great arm strength. But he was a great QB.

In this offense especially, that is the case. This offense is predicated on short timing routes that require great accuracy so the WR can catch the ball in stride and get YAC without having to make body adjustments. And man, when it's rolling, it's a great offense to watch.

Rodgers main flaw is that he throws the ball too hard on short/intermediate routes.
