ORL/MEM Trade

Post#1 » by magicfanatic23 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:12 pm

I am a Magic fan here and just thought I would get your guys opinion. There has been some talk on our board about getting one of your PGs either Crittenton or Lowry. We probably would want Crittenton more but any chance of getting either in a straight swap for JJ Redick or Keith Bogans? Just thought I would ask. Thanks.

Sorry, but that is a pretty easy no. I wouldn't trade a future 2nd for Reddick much less a decent young guard. All Reddick has proven is that he will whine if he doesn't get playing time. That's the last type of guard that we need in this very deep guard oriented lineup!

When we move one of those guys, it will more than likely be to add frontcourt depth - not to add another guard.

Bingo. I liked the idea of trying to acquire Reddick or Bogans, before we ordered extra Mayo with our draft...

well in reality its not what you all think, but what your management thinks, and they are after capspace. An expiring like Bogans and a pick might get it done whether you like it or not.

Good point. It seems that is all Memphis is after these days.

Shows what non Gizz fans know.

I realize you can only regurgitate what the national media and Chad Fraud's of the world feed you, but if ALL Memphis was after was expiring contracts, Miller would have been gone last season to Miami for JWill and Ricky Davis. Sure, the Grizz want flexibility, but they wanted to save Miller for the right deal. And if ALL the Grizz were after was cap room, then why bring back Jaric? Because you had to in order to score Mayo.

Bottom line, Lowry, and even Hak, are worth more than just cap space.

Oh, and you're dead on about what we think vs what management thinks. Who the blue bloody hoo had are you - Otis Freakin' Smith? This is a message board, nothing more than banter and opinions - and nothing lowers an opinion more than trying to play the "well nah nah you're not management" card.

If the Grizz are after cap space, then it will NOT be rookie deals that they are swapping for cap space. Please, we do ask that you use your own noggin before coming onto this board and spewing what we can read on ESPN, and all Grizz fans know that ESPN is so negative about the Grizz because Heisley and Wallace don't tell them anything!

If the Grizz want cap space for Lowry or Critt, they would just not pick up their options at the end of the year.

I don't know what's worse, winning 22 games, or watching Dwight Howard (one of my favorite players) spinning his wheels and never getting a taste of the Finals? Well, at least until he gets out of Orlando ala KG ;)

Winning 22 games. Almost half the wins Orlando had. Maybe this year.

this is memphis we are talking about, giving away players for free ala Pau Gasol, so i wont be shocked if it happens. Did the fans agree with management on that trade?

No, not in the final outcome. My biggest gripe is that it came down a full two weeks before the trade deadline. That said, management has rolled out a three year plan. Part of that plan is youth, and banking on cap space already achieved. Let's take a look at the deal, Critt for Bogans, that the Einstein before me proposed. This season Bogans makes 2.9 million, Critt makes 1.38. Bogans expires, Critt's contract is a team option for next season. Now if cutting salary is the ONLY thing that management is doing, then why not just keep Critt, save 1.5 million and not tender him?

Again, I'm not saying that Critt may not be traded, but make sense of it at least. Do your homework. Even though the Gasol deal was in general not liked by the Memphis fans, there was a rhyme/reason to it. It was it's own instance and not the totality for the entire roster.

Players on rookie contracts, particularly Lowry, Warrick and JCritt, have value beyond just trading for expiring deals.

you make a good point that rookie contracts aren't the biggest setbacks in terms of acquiring capspace, but every little bit helps when you are trying to make room for 2 major FA signings and they are easier to move. Of course those players have value, thats why we are interested, and there would have to be picks involved, maybe future 1sts after you use your cap space.

" Let's take a look at the deal, Critt for Bogans, that the Einstein before me proposed. This season Bogans makes 2.9 million, Critt makes 1.38. Bogans expires, " then you wouldnt be doing the deal because cap space... you'd be doing it because your management like bogans.. The proposed deal is you guys also get a pick aswell.

Hi folks, Magic fan here. An article on Florida Today ( http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.d ... rentPage=0 )

suggests that Orlando have made contact with Memphis about Critt. Assuming that the following Magic players are off limits (Howard, Gortat, Battie, Lewis, Turkoglu, Lee, Pietrus, Nelson), what would you see as a reasonable deal? Given that you have something of a logjam at guard, would a Bogans or Redick + Brian Cook be a realistic scenario?

Bogans would give you depth and defense at both wing positions, able to back up Rudy Gay at the 3 and OJ Mayo at the 2 as required. He's on a fairly reasonable deal which expires at the end of this season.

Redick would fill some of the outside shooting void left by Mike Miller's departure, and could back up OJ Mayo. He could be good for some instant offense of the bench, even if his D leaves a fiar bit to be desired.

Cook would improve your front court depth. Again, he can shoot from the outside, but he is 6'9, 245lbs, and although he is not a technically gifted defender, he does work hard and isn't afraid get physical (sometimes to his detriment, it gets him in foul trouble). Again, contract wise, he comes off the books in 2010, just in time for that marquee free agent summer - if he doesn't fit in, he could prove very useful in terms of clearing some cap space.

Thoughts?
