We NEED to draft a RB...
Alright, I will just say, we need to draft a running back, whether we trade up for a higher pick and get a guy like Lynch, or get a guy like Michael Bush, we NEED a running back. I don't think Maroney's shoulder will be alright and I do not want to have to depend on Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk, drafting a guy like Michael Bush I think would be a good idea... any thoughts?

Well... since I trust Kevin Faulk almost as much as I trust Maroney, I don't think that we need to draft a RB.
Last year, Faulk stepped up his game and made 8+ yrd runs on third down and stuff. In the postseason Faulk did better than Maroney and Dillon combined.
I don't know about Sammy Morris, but Kevin Faulk is a good second string guy.

Why worry over maroney, when there are bigger issues to deal with? The defense is what we need to worry about. We need corner back depth, as well as linebacker depth. So for the pats to trade there two picks to get marshawn lynch would be stupid, when you could have just traded for mcgahee, or signed lewis, or kept dillon. With that said, michael bush is not a bad idea, but he wont be there come 3rd round.

Michael Holley says there is nothing wrong with Maroney's shoulder. In fact the injury is a rib injury. It's basically a dislocated rib and that is what Maroney had the surgery on.
As for running back I think the Pats will be fine. Morris is a more than capable backup. He's a solid guy. Then they still have Heath Evans who's a good power guy. And Faulk still does well. However if they think they have a RB that can be a steal I'd like to see them take that guy.

I don't get that...What evidence do you have that Maroney's shoulder won't heal?U2larkin04 wrote:I don't think Maroney's shoulder will be alright

Apparently it was bothering him enough to have exploratory surgery a few weeks back, and he was wearing a sling (I read it in the Herald, too lazy to find link, someone else feel free to step up). Though exact info on what's wrong is, per the Pats standard policy, lacking.
Anyway, I'd like to see them take an RB, but not because of Maroney or because it's a need. I just think that with so many early 2nd round talents at RB this year, one is bound to slip and make a great value for someone. For example, maybe Pittman's game won't translate well to the NFL like everyone says, but if he lasts to the 3rd, I'd be willing to take a chance and find out. Or maybe Bush will never get all the way healthy again, but once more, if the price is a 3rd rounder I'd like to take a chance and see. Or how about that guy from Nebraska people are saying is a sleeper Rudi Johnson type? Anyway, that's why I want the Pats to go RB in the 3rd, not because of Maroney maybe being hurt.

.
He's without a sling already, so if he had an issue with the shoulder it was minor. Holley seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to the Pats, so I'll take his word that it was a rib issue. And if anybody saw when he got hurt, I don't see how could have been his shoulder. Of course he could just have two injuries.

Is running back, this big of an issue? Am I the only one who is missing this. Because my thoughts are look at our running backs for 2001 and 2003 super bowls. And compare them to now.
Antoine Smith OR Laurence Maroney
-Edge goes to maroney, even if he is at 75%
J.R. Redmond OR Sammy Morris/Heath Evans
-Edge goes to the duo of Morris/Evans
Young Kevin Faulk OR older Faulk
-Yeah, I guess you would want the younger version. But there is not that much a difference.

maroney is already healthy, and is going to surprise us more than last year. he will have had a full offseason and nfl season under his belt, and will be improved. as we stand now, depending on how the draft falls, i would take a running back if the value is right. bush if he falls far enough, maybe a power guy like tony hunt or a scatback like lorenzo booker.
however, we dont NEED a RB, or dillon would still be here

I hope you're right. I think the reason people are concerned though is that surgery is rarely done for minor injuries, implying the shoulder thing was at some point a serious concern. Or maybe "exploratory surgery" just sounds worse than it is.....I'm not really sure exactly what it entails.

i hope we take a risk, and take a flier on michael bush. this kids is ultra talented- if he heals properly, it will be the steal of the draft
i agree, but if the pats like henry, then we probably should. i would prefer a guy like leonard or bush, bush's questions being injury, not talent. then again, the guy henry was behind last year was in the nfl this year so theres clearly some talent in their program.
in the end i trust their judgement
