Wow. First of all, this is my very first impression of the Rockets' Board. I love the passive nature of your moderators for allowing this thread to happen. Rarely do I read an entire thread that has 3+ pages, but this thread is dynamite. Congratulations to all involved, and a special congrats to rocketsfan for posting nothing sane or literate in his first 11 tries. Pure gold. Out of this thread I can take that Carl Landry is a valued commodity to the Rockets, and that typing in all caps still isnt cool.

What I'd like to see is Landry's agent make a statement saying Carl refuses to play for the Rockets after the shenanigans Morey has pulled, and that he's signing with the Pacers for 3 years, $14M.

The thing is that the Rockets can match any offer made to Landry, regardless of whether or not he WANTS to play for Houston.

Get back on topic guys, the annoyances will be taken care of.

Tough sh*t.

Landry wants to be in Houston anyways. Morey isnt going to let him go. Hes been doing everything correctly since he took over as GM. There is not a chance in hell we let Landry go.

And why the hell would Carl want to play in Indiana for? Do you honestly believe hes going to want to go from being a key contributer on a winning team to one of the worst teams in the league? I highly doubt that !!!

You do realize that hes only using Indiana to get a more lucrative offer from Houston. We're going to re-sign him, we are just trying to figure out how much money to give him.

THe more i think about it the more i realize that Landry leaving is a legitimate concern. Morey screwed him last year by signing him at the absolute last second with minimum pay at only one year. Landry's agent openly said that the deal confused him. Now he's asking Landry to get surgery to make sure his knee is ok. Either Morey is really concerned about the knee or he's trying to push his value down. If i'm Landry i would be really really pissed. Screw me once, shame on me. Screw me twice... i'm packing my bag.

Why'd you think Morey drafted Joey Dorsey? He's the insurance in case Landry leaves via free agency.

The only thing I dont get is why would the Pacers sign Landry when they have Murphy and McRoberts( who is a scrub) at the PF positions?

NO! There is absolutely zero percent chance that we will lose Landry. None.
1. He is restricted meaning we can match any offer he receives whether his agent likes it or not.
2. Why do you think we haven't offered our MLE to anybody? So we can match whatever he gets in the event that some team makes him an outlandish offer. Morey obviously doesn't want to sign him for the full MLE and apparently his agent is trying to get that or close to it. That is his job. Morey doesn't want to overpay, but has left his options open in the event that he has to. Nobody can offer Landry more than the MLE so there really is no danger of losing Carl. The only danger here is that we may be forced into overpaying him and not having anything left to try to pick up another player in free agency. Plus, you don't want your backup PF making more money than your starting PF.

Oh yeah...I know you guys really had a lot of fun and got a few giggles, but let's try to stay on topic from here on out. Just a reminder...derailing threads, namecalling, baiting other posters into arguments, and typing in all caps(the internet equivalent of yelling and yes that is in the rules) are all warnable offenses.

Well, Landry did go to school at Purdue, so he has ties to Indiana, but I agree, if I were him, I'd just assume stay in Houston. I do disagree that Indiana is "one of the worst teams in the league" though. They were just a game or two out of the playoffs last year and they have filled a lot of holes this offseason. Landry would play in Indiana, but the situation is probably better for him in Houston.

As a Pacers fan, I hope you guys re-sign him. I'd just assume save the cap space for next season when we have a boatload of guys coming off the books.

Vator is right. Morey is keeping the MLE open because he doesn't know what type of offer Landry is going to get. Morey obviously doesn't want to throw the MLE at Landry, but if it comes to that then I think we'll have to do it. If we re-sign Landry, we'd be bringing back a 55 win team PLUS an upgrade at backup SG and some young, athletic rookies to go along with that. As bright as an injury-free season looks for Houston, we can't afford to lose energy off the bench, ESPECIALLY at the PF position in a guy like Landry.

Gah! I'd forgotten we won 55 games last year.

I think the rest of the people on realgm have forgotten the same thing. If we can manage to stay healthy then we will win the West.

Cuz one isn't a Low Post Scoring PF...and the other is...well...a scrub. IF the Pacers were somehow able to acquire him....Landry would be Murphy's backup....even though Landry probably has a bigger upside.

For the very same reasons why most of you want to resign Landry.....I would want to do the same for the Pacers.

But I'm guessing that the Rockets FO will simply match with whatever MLE offer Landry gets....but even if that seems likely.....I really would hope that the Pacers FO at least tries.

Landry's agent is probably suprised by alot of things. He and his agency have 4 clients-some Euro,an undrafted senior,a 25 yr old player who hasn't sniffed the NBA and Landry.
Henry Abbott of True Hoops saw a list of second rd salaries from last yr. At the time 12 players had signed-11 got the minimun, the only diff between them was how much was guaranteed of first and second yrs.(The exception was Fesenko of Utah-he got slightly more, and more yrs,but the extra yrs are lower than what he would be expected to get.)
The Rockets would be insane to give the full MLE to Landry. Beyond over-paying for a BACK-UP PF w/suspect knees, there is the matter of another second rd PF and his agent who are watching w/keen interest. Give Landry the MLE after 1/2 of a decent season and why shouldn't Dorsey demand the same if he puts in a decent season? And in a couple of yrs Scola is going to want at least as much-and he's the starter.
Losing Landry because he wants too much money is not the end of the world. Will the Rockets miss the Playoffs because Landry isn't on the team? No. Will the Rockets lose a Playoff Series because they don't have Landry? No.
Let's keep a little perspective. We all expect Scola to be better this yr. That means more minutes for Scola, not less. Dorsey wasn't drafted to be a cheerleader on the bench. Odds are Landry would see fewer minutes this yr than last.

And you're going to hear a lot of that. As far as most people are concerned, the Rockets had a fluke winning streak and couldn't get out of the first round again. They didn't see them play in that winning streak; they didn't take into account that we were missing our best player for the latter half of the streak as well as the rest of the season; and they didn't see this team struggle to adapt to the new system...only to flourish once everyone got it.

No, in most minds we just suck.

Who cares? Let people think that. I can't wait for our upcoming season to see what this team can do when healthy with the tweaks they've made. 60+ is not out of the question if we're healthy.

Now...will everyone join me in praying that the Chinese team in teh Olympics is knocked out as quickly as possible so that Yao can rest?

Landry isn't worth the entire MLE and Morey keeping the entire MLE available does not mean he would match one either. It is simply smart business to keep it available as a way to stem offers from other teams as they would know Houston could match, keeping his 'restricted' status more or less.

And who cares about regular season success? We've had plenty of it the past few seasons. It's the playoffs where respect is earned and that's where we've struggled.
