Defining Moments for Great Players
What are some of the great moments where you just knew a player was going to be special
I'll start off with Gilbert Arenas
Game 5 of 2005 Playoffs
After this play, it was in the playoffs, a walk off game winner, AT THE BUZZER, on the other team's home court, I just KNEW this guy was gonna be a primetime player. He steps up in the big moments and this was a defining play at least for me.
btw this can be past or present w/e

Re: Defining Moments for Great Players
Gilbert Areneas missing the free throws after LeBron just telling him if he misses it his season is over. And it was.
After that I decided Areneas wasn't mentally stable enough to be a leader for a winner untill proven otherwise.
Pierce's play in the largest 4th quarter comeback in NBA history in 02' ECF
Lebron, the 25 points. I gave up on anyone else being better in teh future after that.

Wade's 06 finals performance. He dominated that series.
Lebron's 4th quarter and overtime game against the Pistons in 07
Kobe's 81 points
T-Mac's 13 points in 35 seconds

I watch that clip all the time. It's crazy to think that he pulled that off, let alone against the Spurs. If they had lost the game it would have been much less meaningful but they didnt.

Paul Pierce- coming back from a career-threatening injury in the NBA finals, only to lead his team to a game 1 victory, sparked by his couple of 3's in a row..
Lebron- the 4th vs. Detroit..this is when The King got his throne..
Dirk- 50-point game vs. the Suns in game 5..
Iverson/VC- series in 2001..amazing showdown..Iverson's game 1 vs. LA too..
T-Mac- 13 points vs. the Spurs..ya...
Kobe- obviously the 81..
Dwyane Wade- the greatest finals performance in NBA history..
Tim Duncan- 20 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 8 blocks to win the title vs. NJ..

I've always thought his shot over Lue in that game would go down as one of the biggest shots in NBA history...call me crazy..but it perectly symbolized the sixers, iverson and their journey that year. Iverson against the mighty Lakers, they are down in OT, going against the whole world, they have no chance to win, all the odds stacked against them, watching Iverson against suffocating D.....then swish......
He steps back and completely destroys lue on this play. When you consider the magnitude of the moment, the pressure in the 4th quarter and the difficulty of the cross/over shot by AI and the oos and awws from the crowd, you just cry a little
it was just so nasty

and i didnt even talk about him stepping OVER LUEEEEEE OMG
Most definitely a signature/defining moment for Iverson
Hide the children!!

Re: Defining Moments for Great Players
Paul Pierce coming back from a career-threatening injury? Sorry, but I have to laugh at that. The fact that he hurt his knee makes it a prospective career-threatening injury, but in order to "come back from a career-threatening injury", you have to actually have sustained some sort of legitimate injury.
Personally, I think Pierce used the "injury" as a chance to go take a sh*t in the locker room.

While somewhat witty, it seems as if you're directing that comment towards me. Just for the record, I'm neither a Celtics hater or Lakers fan. I just can't help but shake my head when I see Pierce run back on the court in way too dramatic fashion after being carried off the court by his teammates like he just snapped his leg in half. It was a bit theatrical, don't you agree?

Gilbert Arenas's play in that series was one of the best in recent years..the guy averaged 34 points 5 reb 5 assists on a good defensive team in Cleveland ..............Too bad people only remember those missed free throws..

Naw, just joking.
That was a defining series for Pierce though.

I agree with the bolded the most. I don't know which one is better. Tim Duncan's near quad. double or T-Mac's amazing accomplishments. Those two are out of this world.

T-Mac defining moment was when he said how wonderful it was to finally be in the second round, when Orlando were up 3-1 against Detroit.

Jordan's flu game. We already knew he was special at that time, then in that game he was elevated to GOD/GOAT status.
