A star? Really?

I mean, I'm liking his play in the summer league so far, but come on: it's summerleague, aka Bo Outlaw quadruple double time of the year.

By what he's shown me, he looks like he'll likely turn into a very solid backup, with a possibility of becoming a decent starter. I really don't see a reason why to expect him to become a star just yet. He was solid in college, but there was a reason he was drafted at 22 and not in the lottery. Summer league isn't a good indicator to say he can be a star IMO. If he keeps up this play when the season starts and can keep it going on a consistent base when opposing teams figure out his game and instrument their players on how to devend him and he STILL keeps going at it, then there's a reason to consider him a possible star. That's still a ways from now.

The reason I say star is, well, it's summer and things are slow. I like to keep my hopes up about something that can't be crushed within the next couple of weeks.

a little OT

Courtney Lee – We watched for him the last few years. Courtney did not work out for a lot of teams, and he didn’t want to play in Orlando. He has an all-around game. Very good basketball player. Knows how to play the game. He has a chance to start right away.

He isn't? That's news to me...

Considering he was drafted at #22, I'd assume he'd be a solid role player off the bench, at best. Maybe a spot starter when necessary.

If he can become a good back-up SG for us, then I'd be thrilled.

See, the reason I think he could be more than just a mediocre player is that the reason he was drafted so low was due to his school. His talent wowed numerous teams, hence the nail-biting come draft time. The kid has talent, and the biggest question mark was how strong his opponents were in college. It isn't like he was evaluated and found lacking in skill.

Just like there was a reason Tony Parker went in the 20's. Tayshaun Prince, Gilbert Arenas, Carlos Boozer, Manu Ginobili and more. I get what your saying but at the same time the kid has a great game and from everything Ive seen hes a hard worker an wants to be good. When I say "Star" I dont mean Kobe Bryant, but I could see him being a Richard Hamilton type of guy. Someone who knocks down the open 3, hits from mid range, gets the line and makes them, and takes it to the rack for buckets. Theres always guys who slip in the draft because maybe they dont fit a need or have as much "Potential" left. Realistically in terms of talent Lee would have gone higher IMO ahead of guys like Javelle McGee an some others.

Definitely true, but the draft is what... 2 weeks away? None of the guys you mentioned were considered "Stars" two weeks after the draft because they did pretty well in summerleague. That's why it's summerleague. :D I didn't say he can't become a star, I just think it's wayyy too early to even talk about stuff like that since realistically he hasn't really done anything yet when it comes to playing on an actual NBA level.

i think clee is gonna be a solid guard for a long time for us... i seriously doubt an all star games will be in the future.... eventually he will be our starter at the 2g... i dont think he will ever blow our doors off but not everyone on the floor can do that ... but clee seems like someone who will show up everyday and go to work... he will be a good fit

something that i like about what ive seen about lee's game so far in sl games is his smoothness on the court... it never seems like he is in a hurry... he knows what he's cappable of and he just finds a way to fit in...

Bench player.

Totally not convinced.....

Yeah im with you. I dont think hes got the skills to be a star (hope he proves me wrong) but I think he can be a good player. 15 ppg, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, maybe a steal or 2

Maybe like a combination of Rip Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey of the Pistons. We just need to hope he develops into a real solid 2 guard.

I love Lee, I was hoping the Knicks traded into 1st rd to get him.IMHO i think will be a Raja Bell type of player but with wayyyy more offensive game.He will be a starting Role Player, that will occasionally have HUGE games. But as dwight gets better offensively Lee will get better offensively, Lee is really going to shine with Dwight.Lee is going to take advantage of having a big man that will get dbl and trpl teamed,Lee is going to knock down sooo much 3s in his career and he will lead all rookies this year.I am happy that he went to my 3rd fav team...Btw why did you guys get Pietrus when you have Hedo and Lee?Not that it is bad but pietrus is aheck of a player but who will be the odd man out. Also good luck with Lee and good luck this season,I think you guys are going to the Finals

We play a lot of small ball, with Lewis at the 4, Hedo at the 3, and Lee and Pietrus will likely split the time at the 2. Doubt there is going to be an odd man out amongst those guys. JJ Redick and Keith Bogans may well struggle to get playing time if they are still here in November, though....

I'll be more than happy if Lee becomes a sixth man for us.

I can see him becoming a starter for us, but just bringing some fire off the bench would be huge for us already. I liked what I saw in the SL, but let's not forget, it was just SL.

It's redundant to say to wait until the season starts, but that's what we all need to do right now. He made a great 1st impression, and I'm confident that he'll continue to show us what he is capable of. But until then, I'm better of thinking about him as a solid bench player.

Some high expectations out there for a guy who has only played a couple summer league games.
