Trades that never happened, but could have happened ...

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Tue Jul 15, 2008 5:30 pm

Jun 26, 1997 - Another report had Van Horn going to Chicago as part of a trade for Scottie Pippen; that was one of a number of rumors involving the Bulls' all-star forward. ... Included in that group was high schooler Tracy McGrady,

http://www.hoops.com.au/sa/i.cfm/forumlist/901/

But he said that request fell on deaf ears. Jackson also wanted to deal Bryant to Phoenix in 1999 for Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion but was told both times that owner Jerry Buss would never allow it.

Bulls were going to trade the #7 pick and a player to be named to Miami for the #5 pick in the 2003 draft to select Wade

Those were just some of the near deals that happened.

There are all sorts of deals that never go through, I would guess.

One strong one that went around the Bucks board is last years pick (#6, turned out to be Yi) and Bobby Simmons for Marion. Apparently Kohl nixed it because of Marion's salary. I think it still turned out OK as we gave up Yi and Simmons for Jefferson, though if push came to shove, I'd rather have Marion.

I guess there was also a Boozer to the Bucks deal that was very close to happening. This the year after his injury plagued season in Utah. I forget who was involved on the bucks side.

The trade last year that "almost" happened between the Bulls/Lakers/Kings, with Artest and Ben Wallace heading to LA...would have been interesting to see how far that LA team would have gotten, compared to trading trash for Gasol.

One that comes to mind was when the Blazers offered the #2 pick (ended up Sam Bowie) and this young swingman named Clyde Drexler to the Rockets for Ralph Sampson but they ended up declining. What could have been....

Jordan, Drexler AND Hakeem.

At one point Dallas offered Dirk Nowitzki for Andrei Kirilenko. I think Utah declined because they still had Karl Malone.

There were rumors of a Marion for Tyson Chandler+the 2nd pick ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe ... er&spell=1 )

Instead, they traded Marion for old, broken Shaq.

Such is life.

And, of course, the potential KG to PHX, Marion to Boston, Boston's stuff to Minny that Marion nixed.....that would have obviously changed the way the entire last season worked out.

I hadn't heard that one but I did hear Nelson offered Jo Howard and a first for Ak in his all-star year.

Kevin Garnett was supposed to go to Golden State last season.

The Warriors had to wait until August 6 to pull off the trade, because they had signed Brandan Wright to a contract and had to wait 30 days to trade him. A couple days before August 6th, the Celtics finally decided to involve Al Jefferson in a package, which automatically made them the number 1 trade partner since Minnesota wanted Jefferson so much. If Boston never offered Al, then KG would have been a Warrior.

PG: Baron Davis
SG: Monta Ellis
SF: Stephen Jackson
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Andris Biedrins

Although I do not think that would have been the line-up because I think the Warriors package was Monta Ellis, Brandan Wright, a first round draft pick and some fillers.

Allen Iverson to Detroit back in 2000. He was having problems with Larry Brown. One of the players that was packaged with AI, failed his physical thus the trade not happening. That same season, Allen was MVP and singlehandedly led the Sixers to the NBA finals.

Iverson to Detroit was one of the first that come to mind. It was a done deal basically but Matt Geiger of all people held up the trade...kinda like Devan George.

Jermaine O'Neal and Vince Carter have been in rumors about trades for each other for the past two years.
