Would you rather pursue Vince Carter or Ron Artest?

What would you give up for either?

I think for Vince Carter you would have to give up Stackhouse, George and Eddie Jones for him and for Artest probably a swap with Josh Howard.

If for VC

That would give you a lineup of:

PG Kidd/Barea
SG Vince/Terry
SF Howard/Wright
PF Dirk/Bass
C Diop/Dampier/Allen

If for Artest

That would give you a lineup of:

PG Kidd/Barea
SG Stackhouse/Terry/Jones
SF Artest/Wright/George
PF Dirk/Bass
C Diop/Dampier/Allen

Artest for 2 reasons: he plays way better defense, and can still score, and he would also be a hell of a lot cheaper than VC... Either one would be nice to have in Dallas though

I'd rather have Artest but not at the expense of Howard and if the Nets really would take your package for Carter, I'd jump all over that ****.

And if I'm thinking correctly, he'd be a huge contract with a year left to possibly use in sign and trades for the Lebron/Bosh/Melo free agent class.

Ummm Ron Artest isnt going to cost Josh Howard. Sacramento, despite what their fans say, arent getting the value they think for Artest, espically when he is seeking a trade away from them.

I'd much rather have Ron Artest.

If we can grab Vince without giving up Josh, that offseason would instantly be a great success IMO. But i would give up on Howard for Vince if we get a little more out of the trade.

Just no to Artest if the cost is Howard. That would be a huge downgrade offensively. And im not sure i want Josh and Artest on the same team...

Giving up Howard to get either one, would be a lateral move at best.

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad after alot of knee jerk reactions from people demanding Howard be traded, people are now realize moving J-Ho for inferior or unproven talent would be a mistake.

If we could either without giving up Howard then make it happen.

I think Artest is more of what this team needs. Artest is the better combination of hard nosed defense along with a nice offensive game. I don't think Vince is a great defender and Vince is older as well.

I would take Artest in a minute even if it cost us Josh Howard. Obviously if we could keep J-Ho and also get Artest than I think that would be unbelievable. I just don't see how that could happen.

Vince Carter. Artest is obviously better defensively, but Carter can dominate a game on the offensive end and take a lot of pressure off of Dirk. Plus, he's not insane.

Based on what it would do for the team next season, I'd say it's Artest easily. We'd significantly improve defensively (obviously), and our offense would improve as well if Howard and Artest play together at the SG and SF, respectively. Plus, I think Artest could play the backup PF position at times, as Bass would probably have to be included in the deal.

Carter, IMO, would cause too many problems for us defensively, as I don't want to see Josh Howard having to be our defensive stopper (and I don't think he wants that either). Salary-wise, I'd much rather have Carter locked up for the next few years than Artest for only one, though.

I'd be happy with either...would not want to compromise Howard in the process though.

If I had to choose between the 2, I'd say Carter because he would take pressure off Dirk and is better in the open court. Artest is the better defender but VC is at least better than Terry and we should have decent perimeter defense from the bench. I'm not as concerned about our defense since we signed Diop. Not having a rim defender in the game at all times was half our problem last season.

Jet and Stack for Vinsanity and or Bass George and Jones for Artest and we give the Kings the $ to buy out Jones if they want to do that. Plus we throw in a young wing on the deal. Singleton Wright or Green anyone? NJ might want Wright back since he is signed cheap.

We end up with both VC and Artest that would be the perfect scenario

Kidd JJ JaJuan
Vince Howard Foster Williams
Artest Howard
Dampier Diop Sow
Dirk Pop's Rhodes

If we could get Kristic in a S&T along with VC that would be enough incentive to do the VC deal and we'd have Diop Kristic and Dampier as a three headed center with Kristic backing Dirk up as well. Sow is a PF not a center and he would take Pop's or Rhodes place. By the way were is Pop's?
With NJ wanting to rid itself of Kristic and VC we might broker Kristic to another team with a 3 way deal if we don't take him. Obviously if we could move Jones Stack and Bass for Kristic and VC I would do that and forget Artest because with Kristic we have a scoring center that can play backup to Dirk and that would allow us to go very big with teams and play 3 bigs when using Dirk at the 3.

But even with Damp or Diop in the game, we often still didn't have anyone consistently defending the paint/basket.

I'm telling you guys, it's a mistake to place so much confidence in Diop's defensive abilities. Maybe he'll blossom under Carlisle, but he wasn't anywhere near the elite defender most people made him out to be after the trade. Above average, yes, but terribly inconsistent.

It's easily Ron Artest for me. I'd hate for us to take on Vince Carter's salary:

$15,200,000

$16,300,000

$17,300,000

$18,000,000 (Team Option)

Ron on the other hand would sign for less next season and he can do even more damage on the court. He doesn't credit the credit he deserves at times but we could really use both his offense and defense.

I'm not necessarily saying that we are strong in that area, but my point is that defense at the SG position is not as much of a concern for me when we have rim defenders in the game. I think Diop's inconsistent play and lack of PT had a lot to do with Bass' ability to perform on the offensive end. However, we really seemed to suffer when there was no paint defender in the game. Terry defending at SG + no rim defender = a lot of paint scoring and trips to the foul line for the opposition.

My point is basically that I would rather compromise a little on the SG defensive end now if we could get a guy that can divert defensive attention away from Dirk. In other words, teams would probably pay a little more attention to VC than Artest which would open things up for Dirk.
