OT: Indie Rock Thread- Part II

Post#1 » by Bill Bradley » Tue Jul 15, 2008 3:43 am

Well, it looks like the old threads are never coming back, so I have to start a new indie rock thread to keep tabs on what's new and good.

I'll start. Here are The Wombats

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Tim Fite and Santogold are a couple of BK artists I've been repping for awhile now. Santogold is getting more pub, but Fite is very good as well.

The Go! team are so over-rated. Great 1st album, eveyrthign since has just sucked. Like RJD2 sort of the started to thing their **** didn't stink and then it all whent downhill.

I saw Bon Iver in February.... they are tight live and I thought they put on a good show... I'd recommend seeing them if you've got the chance

I've been listening to port o'brien and sun kil moon recently

I like the Bon Iver record and I also like Santogold's.

I'm kinda digging this record: "Yearbook 1" by Studio.
http://www.amazon.com/Yearbook-1-Studio/dp/B000TLYWZO
Very New Order/Happy Mondays vibe.

The new Wolf Parade record sounded pretty solid on the first go-around.
I have the Fleet Foxes but I haven't listened to them yet.

Lightspeed Champion has been a favourite of mine this year. His album "Falling off the Lavender Bridge" is quite terrific.

Also, astonishing with Maximo Park and The Wombats mentioned in the first post that The Fratellis haven't gotten a mention. Their album "Here We Stand" is a good follow up to their first album "Costello Music".

Also, not sure if it qualifies as "indie rock" (I've always hated that term to describe a musical style, given that it refers to the status of the artist's record contract - Alternative rock makes more sense) but Jamie Lidell's "Jim" has been rocking my world this year.

I like it a lot. The album was produced by Dave Friedmann (producer of all Flamings Lips LPs) and it's awesome. Almost all tracks are instant hits.

The Last Shadow Puppets (with guys from Arctic Monkeys) first LP is pretty good too.

Aside from these bands first LPs, I also like the new Spiritualized album. It's a band I like a lot. It's half of Spacemen 3 for those who used to listen to that band in the mid 80s or early 90s.

The Tindersticks new album is fantastic if you like that band. Their best since 1997.

I'm disappointed by Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell second LP, I liked their first one better.

Beck aslo has a new album out but didn't get the chance to listen to it. I probably will in the upcoming days.

Cool I'm glad to see that people are still listening to surf rock. I'm heading down to San Diego in September to see The Surf Coasters.

Cool, have fun.. The Coasters are pretty awesome, I liked some of their older stuff, their newer stuff didn't have the same effect on me, but the live show should be a blast either way.
