I don't understand why we just don't throw the MLE at him for 4 or 5 years. At the rate that things are going, he probably won't get an offer because teams know that we are likely to match. He will probably end up just taking the one year qualifying offer and then next year he will command a lot more money than the 5 million we should be throwing at him now. It isn't like we are going to use the MLE to sign a player from another team or at least there has been no indication that this is the case.

Hey Nugget fans, just wondering what you guys would think of JR in Cleveland next to LeBron?

Would there be anything you'd be interested in if it came down to a S&T?

We'll need a starting type PG in return who can distribute the ball well. It's neither Gibson or West, so no thanks.

But actually we might use the MLE... if we could get a team to offer him a contract and we match, then the MLE will still be there for use and we can sign another player.

^^^^ I think we can sign JR for whatever we want (i.e we don't have to use the MLE to sign him) because we hold his bird rights. The catch is, if we want to use the MLE on another player, we have to do that first.

Could be that management has a plan to sign a FA or two, then look to resign JR to a long term deal using his bird rights.

I understand what you and snake have pointed out, but this is Denver's FO we are talking about. If this is the plan, and it could be, I think it will backfire. Our FO under Kroenke does have a history of low-balling some players. They wouldn't even fork out 3 million to match Najera, which would have cost us 6 million. I hope you guys are right though.
