The rest of the offseason
I think we should:
1. Make a run at Zo & KT
2. Try to steal Ron Artest and filler (another KT) with expiring & picks.
i.e. Stack, DG, Bass, EJ with second round picks for Artest & KT
3. Sign our rookies.
The best case scenario:
C - DIop / Zo / Damp
PF - DIrk / KT / Singleton
SF - Artest / AW / Green
SG - JoHo / JET / Foster
PG - Kidd / McLeod / JJB

No to Alonzo... He is old and fragile and basically everything we dont need. Ron Artest probably isnt going anywhere, and if he does, it wont be for cheap. As far as our rookies, im willing to see what Shan Foster can bring, if anything.

I agree with you but I don't think our backup or 3rd string center is as big of an issue. I would love to have either of them but we would be fine with neither as well. If we could land an Artest or Marion caliber player it would be a good offseason.

Re: The rest of the offseason
I like that plan. As long as it gets us Artest and the others play for vet mins we can do that. KT would help out behind Dirk. Zo would help out tremendously at center even as old as he is. For some reason age isn't a factor when your an ex great center. Artest would put us in contention with his being a 2 way player.
Now the question is if you are Sacramento and you have Odom or Bass and expirers to choose from what do you do? I think expirers are the added punch because Bass is cheap and may turn into a starting quality 4 this season with the right amount of PT and he has a way better FT % than Odom already and he is stronger and has an upside. With SAC being out of the race this year before it even starts they need to be concerned with building for the future and we could throw in a lottery protected pick if we have any left.

I would rather Marion, Gerald Wallace, or Josh Smith over Ron Artest. Artest doesn't bring enough offensively to help out Kidd. He is a defensive mastermind, but we need a slasher for Kidd

Of course you prefer them. But how do you get them? The Mavs don't have many assets other than Dirk.

JD's right. You can't get any of them for expiring and second picks. But there's some chance on Ron Artest. The closest Ron Artest trade so far is Lamar Odom. But the Kings asks them to take KT as well. Lakers hang up the phone. This means (1) they would trade him to the West; (2) they don't need serious offer. Odom sucks; (3) they want to dump KT for any Ron Artest trade.
Mark Cuban can offer these conditions. Ron Artest is the right price for him to take some salaries. It would seriously upgrade the team's talent. He's a locker room problem but Carlisie's worked nicely with him before. And Ron's a leader in King's comeback against SAS 2 seasons ago. He's an excellent defender and underrated scorers. He can step up his game in playoff.
The current signing tell us something. We're looking for replacement in DG (Singleton), Stack and EJ(Wright, Green) even if they've got 2 decent prospect in RAT and SF. With Singleton on the roster, they can even throw in Brandon Bass for the right deal. Ron Artest is one of them.

Re: The rest of the offseason
Without a doubt I'd do
Jerry Stackhouse + Brandon Bass + Eddie Jones for Ron Artest + Kenny Thomas
G- Kidd / Terry / Barea
G- Howard / Green / Foster
F- Artest / George / Wright
F- Dirk / Thomas / Sinlgeton
C- Damp / Diop /
Cut McLeod. Sign a 3rd string center.
I'd be happy with that offseason.

Re: The rest of the offseason
I'm very disappointed in McLeod, Green, and Singleton so far. The first two is worthless. The last one is extremely foul prone. They don't belong to the league. Foster and R. Terry deserves a spot. Of course, I want more defense more them, though.
I think we should cut the former for the latter together with a better backup PG, e.g. Tinsley (for vet min of course) or Livingston or JaJuan Smith. Well, the rookie has one impressive game now. Let's keep an eye on him.
We still need a combo PF/C. I'm not sold on rookie at this position. I'd like to have Zo, KT, or Mutombo. But Sow or Roudes can play some (regular seaon games) for sure.

I don't know if I would call Green worthless quite yet. I want to see more of him before I totally judge however so far I am disappointed with him.
In last nights game Foster finally looked like what we were all hoping for. He seems to be a deadly shooter. You can not leave him open. In 3 games the only shots he has missed have been contested. He has knocked down every open shot he has taken. Stick him out there with Dirk, Kidd, Howard and he may get some open looks.
JaJuan Smith looks good but only if he can play PG. He is too small to be a SG in the NBA. And for some reason they have him playing SG on the Summer team. Maybe because they have several other guys trying to get time at PG. However I think that PG is Smith's only way to be able to play in the NBA. If he has never played PG he will take quite a while to develop that skill.
Reyshawn needs to continue to play like he did last night.

Re: The rest of the offseason
srsly? why? we need a second scoring option to take the pressure off of Dirk and JHo is not working. Why not AI? What have we to lose, it's not as if our team is getting anywhere as it is...

Because Terry & AI on the same team sucks and AI is a step backwards if the cost is Howard.
