After trading Camby....
For basically nothing, are the Nuggets relying too much on Nene to come back and have a great season, or they just didnt see the need to keep Camby, because he was easily their best defender on their team.

Looks like pure cost cutting
Also looks like they've thrown in the towel on the current crew

Re: After trading Camby....
I've been throwing this idea around now for the Nuggets
The Nuggets should just go ahead and trade Melo and Iverson along with Atkins to the Bulls for Rose, Gordon, Deng and Hughes so that they are not paying the luxury tax and have some flexibility in the future.
Lineup would look like this:
Bulls
Hinrich/Atkins
Iverson/Thabo
Melo/Nocioni
Gooden/Tyrus
Noah/Gray
Nuggets
Rose/Carter
Gordon/Smith
Deng/Diawara
Kmart/Kleiza
Nene/Hunter

Denver saves like 22 million dollars by doing this trade with the Clippers. Teams the past few years have been able to buy first round picks for 3 million.

Everyone who says AGAIN that Camby is our best defender shouldn't be talking about the Nuggets, because it's clear they haven't seen a Nuggets game in years.
And every journalist who voted Camby for DPOY should quit his job ASAP

Re: After trading Camby....
Nene is their best defender. Camby camps out around the lane, leaving his man, so his blocks are inflated, though they come at the detriment of the team. As for his man defense, it's below-average.
For comparison, think of Allen Iverson and Gilbert Arenas. They both average a lot of steals but how do they get them? They gamble and take risks that, for the most part, are unnecessary and cost the team dearly. That's essentially what Camby does, but instead of gambling for steals, he's cheating in for blocks.

M. balla sadly Camby is ur best defender. You can deny it all u want ive seen my fair share of Nuggets game and without Camby in the lineup they look completely lost on defense.
But, please do share who you think is ur best defender?

True, but Nene has been out for a while, so as of right now I had Camby as their best defender.

miller31time nailed it! What I have been trying to say in a gazillion posts, he put it right there... Nene and Martin are clearly better man to man defenders than him...
Go check that plays from the Lakers-Nuggets Game 1 this playoffs

That's how Marcus defend. Then watch clips from the Game 1 1st round last year. Nene vs Duncan. Duncan said that was the best defense played on him the whole PO's

I still disagree, but I understand why you say this. Camby, at times, makes some plays that are just incredible to watch. He has great standing reach so he's able to get to shots that few others are.
However, I'd have to rate (as M. Balla said) Kenyon Martin as a better defender as well. He has a lot of versatility on the defensive end. If you remember, he actually guarded Kobe during the 1sr round of the playoffs. Now, he obviously didn't shut him down but just to think that he could stay with him (being at the power forward spot) is pretty impressive.

The Nuggets' best defender isn't even worth arguing since it's nothing to be proud about.

Just because the rest of the team sucks on defense doesn't make Nene or K-Mart any worse as defenders. That's a dumb statement.

Re: After trading Camby....
Dunleavy said after the move that the Clippers are getting a great team defender and that's exactly what Camby is. I didn't like how he sometimes fought with his teammates for rebounds (to improve his stats) but you can't deny his importance to the Nuggets. Neither Martin nor Nene have his length and they're both injury prone. They're also going to miss Najera.

And you can't like the contracts of Martin and Nene either. Perhaps Nene will step up this year and be able to complete a season.
By moving Camby, you don't improve the team, only the cap space. Perhaps they have a plan in place for 2010, because they don't look like a contender right now.

Re: After trading Camby....
most posters have said it, but cambys defense is severely overrated. the year that he got the DPOY over duncan was a tragedy.

Can everyone please read this post before commenting on Camby's "incredible" D. His D was a detriment to this team. Kmart and Nene are far better overall defenders. Camby gets pushed around, he is just too thin and he only wants to block shots. And if he cant get the block, its a layup or dunk for the opposing team. He could have been better for us but Karl refuses to coach and allows Camby to run the ball up the floor, stay at the top of the key on offense, and steal rebounds from teammates.
I'll miss Camby, but this should be better for the team, especially since now they must actually defend since they dont have the best shotblocker in the league to back them up. Also, look at our record with Camby and Kmart starting...its atrocious. Nene and Kmart compliment each other so much better. Now if they can only be healthy...

Re: After trading Camby....
Camby is badly overrated as a defender.
But he's still above-average. Floor time stats show the Nuggets are a better defensive team when he's on the floor. Not only that, but over the past few seasons, he's split his time with other relatively good defenders like Nene and Martin. Further, he's done this on a good defensive team, probably top third of the league over his tenure.
So, nowhere near all-league defense, much less DPOY territory, but he still has more positive defensive impact than the average player.

^^ Of course he's still above average, and he wasn't well coached. But a 34 YO center on the declining, slightly above average on the defensive side, no post moves and a suspicious jumpshot that he likes to shoot a lot, doesn't have great trade value.

Re: After trading Camby....
based on the series where the Nuggets played us in the 1st round, Nene looked like a very solid defender..I've commented on it many times..Tim still had some good games, but he had to work HARD for everything..the only guy off the top of my head that I've seen Duncan have to work so hard against was Rasheed Wallace..Nene used his strength and athleticism perfectly on Duncan..
