Who would you rather have?
Dj. Augustin or Bayless? Ima Portland fan.. and ina way i wanted D.J. cuz he was rated as a 'PURE PG" and we all knw the effect CP3 and Daron Williams has had on the NBA. but from all the Pre Draft talk.. DJ was the lowest rated of all the "Top Pg's" so how does Charlotte feel bout that?

Re: Who would you rather have?
I've never seen either one of them play other than summer league, so for me I'd rather have the Pure PG. That doesn't mean Bayless won't be better but, DJ is the choice I'd have went with if your just looking at PG types. Someone here who's seen them both play may think what Bayless brings offsets what DJ can do.

I don't know much about either one, I wanted Westbrook more between the 3 though.

Re: Who would you rather have?
Well, all things considered I really thought Brook Lopez would be the pick.
Of the two, its way too early to judge...its summer league.
Considering the teams history, i'd rather DJ. I'm not saying Bayless can't be good at this level, I'm just saying DJ more fits the Bobcats needs.

Re: Who would you rather have?
I think DJ would have been a good fit in Port bc he is more of that true PG that the Blazers seem to be lacking. There are some solid offensive options in Port with Roy, LA and I am sure some offense will run through Oden over time. With those pieces already in place I think a true QB would have been the pick.
I am not sure Bayless will ever get to that point where he is a pass 1st, shoot 2nd guy but with Roy being such an unselfish star, he might be able to slide over and handle the ball while Bayless looks for his more. I didnt see all of AZs games or anything but from the ones I got a chance to watch he just doesnt strike me as a PG. The skill set is there to do so but I worry that it might take him away from doing what he does best. Given the cast around Port I would have probably taken DJ though JB has the higher upside. He is bigger than DJ and much more explosive. For Charlotte I would have taken JB bc of that upside and the fact that he could play multiple guard positions.
caveat - I have no clue what sort of player Sergio Rodriguez is. They could have very well drafted JB to backup both guard spots which I think would be great bc I think he can run the point for a few minutes here and there, just not someone you want to rely on being the full time PG. They could be counting on SR to be the full time PG next year not JB.

Westbrook was my first option. I'm glad we drafted DJ. And I'm thrilled we didn't even touch Lopez. I wouldn't survive his voice and ..uhm, lack of (social) IQ. It's OK to hear him being interviewed here and there and make fun of him but man it would suck to have him on roster all year long traing to convince yourself to root for him.
I don't know much about Bayless to say I would or would not rather have him than Augustin. I'm just fine with DJ.

Re: Who would you rather have?
i'm very happy we drafted augustine. i would have take lopez over bayless, if i had to do it now. if anything we may regret not going with lopez and chalmers. but ajinça is 100x more interesting than both those guys. we did not need bayless as much as we needed dj. this is a pick and roll league and by the looks of it, we are going to have two of the better pick and roll pgs in the league. thats a really good thing. now we just need some bigs who can do the whole "roll" thing.

I agree with you Doc. Westbrook would bring another dimension to the team as a lockdown perimeter defender and a back up point guard.
But seriously, whats up with Lopez??? Is it just his voice? or there is more to it? ... not to be disrespectful, but he sounds like a (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
Btw, just looked at Bayless stat& highlight ... I hope DJ can be a better PG cause Bayless is looking like Monta Ellis in the making + I think he even has a better PG skills than Monta.

Re: Who would you rather have?
watched the portland game. bayless can get to the rim, thats for sure. lots of iso ball. wiz were playing awful defense though and just fouled him everytime he drove. rather pathetic, but considering their flight arrived about an hour before the game, i'll cut em some slack. bayless is a scorer, not a pg. paired with roy he'll be great. paired with jrich and wallace, its just a bunch of dudes looking to go one on one. we needed passers, guys who can create shots for others. koponen (sp?) was very impressive.
looks like a lot of young guns had good games tonight.
donta greene w/ 40
love 18 and 13
wilson chandler 26 and 8
hickson 26 and 9
r lopez 19 and 5

I saw Bayless made a very crisp pass after a pick and roll from the highlight which suggest he has the court vision to make the pass. I didn't watch the whole game though, so you probably have a better view than me.

Actually Diogu did pretty well his rookie when he started. 10 points (55%FG-85%FT), 5.5 rebs in 24 mins. Unfortunately he was out of favor with Nelson's small ball. As you can see from his body frame, he could barely run. But given a starting job, its not out of the question he can avg 15 pts 8 rebs.
But in general I agree with you fatlever. I remember Marcus banks came in last summer league and dropped 40 pts! and it sure didnt translate to his numbers in the NBA. Or Durant's poor performance last summer was followed by a very promising rookie season.
I think at the end of the day is about work ethic cause most NBA players has the tools to be successful. If you are willing to work on your game, the sky is the limit for these players.
Just take Jrich as an example. He couldn't shoot a lick when he was drafted out of Michigan State. Now, he is one of the best 3pt shooter! Hell, he likes 3s more than driving to the basket.

Bayless is super explosive - not unlike Westbrook, but he can't defend like Westbrook because he has tiny little T-Rex arms.
I like Dj myself, but I like pass 1st PG's.
Bayless is great for Portland though and if Rudy works out at the 3.....wow!! Westbrook would have been better though!
Batum was uninpressive last night.

Re: Who would you rather have?
pondin - i'm certainly not saying bayless cant pass, but he is certainly looking to score first. i'm sure part of that was by design from the coaches as well. he wont last long like that with roy, lma and oden on the floor. dude has skills though.
yeah, you get what i was saying about ike though... basically, i'm not getting excited about donta greene scoring 40pts. if course i'm also a hypocrite cause if ajinca scored 40 i'd be freaking out. LOL.

Mines, Nikoloz Tskitshvili. Summer League 2004, he just tore it apart. So did our own, at the time, Jason Kapono. All of a sudden people thought Nikoloz finally got it, and Jason Kapono would be a cornerstone to the Bobcats success (maybe he could've been...).
Neither happened. So I stopped even watching summer league. I'll read about it, but nothing matter until the real season starts.
