Any chance for Josh Smith?

Post#1 » by CarolinaCash » Wed Jul 16, 2008 4:06 pm

"The relationship between Josh Smith and Mike Woodson is beyond repair, according to sources and could make the forward's return to Atlanta problematic.

Because the Clippers dealt for Marcus Camby, Smith doesn't have very many remaining options in restricted free agency and could elect to accept the one-year tender."

Is there anything we can put together for Smith? Josh Smith for Gerald Wallace? If that's not enough what if we add Felton.......Josh Smith and Acie Law for Gerald Wallace and Felton?

Augustin/Law
JRich/Carroll/Weaver
Morrison/Dudley/JRich
Smith/May/Ajinca/Davidson
Okafor/Mohammad

I wish we would try and make a move for him but I don't see it happening personally.

And you like Morrison over Dudley for a starter if Wallace were to be dealt?

I think Carroll would probably start at SG, Jrich at SF.
Straight up Josh Smith for Wallace + second round or maybe Morrison or May

I wouldn't even consider Felton + Wallace for Smith + Law until Larry Brown would said he is blowned away by acie Law's potential.

Wait, Josh Smith already has got problems with a coach, great, he would fit here. Come on, he could become Artest lite.

I'm just not seeing what we'd really be getting in Josh Smith for the money he's going to command. He'll likely get Okafor money but is definitely not worth what Okafor is worth.

So long if we can resign Okafor and not overpay for Smith, then I'd be okay with signing him. With a more uptempo offense, having him and JRich on the wings is a nightmare for teams. I wouldn't be too concern over issues with his coach. Being on a losing team the majority of your career, you will have some type of frustration.

I gotta be honest, I'm more interested in Marvin Williams or Josh Childress than Josh Smith. His attitude and what he's going to cost don't seem worth it to me.

I know I'll get slammed for this by some due to the UNC backlash on the Bobcats roster but I think Marvin would be perfect for this team. He's going to turn into a really good player and I think a change of scenery would be perfect for him.

He's a laid back guy and he's in an environment where nothing he does will be good enough. He could turn into a consistent 20/10 guy but he still wouldn't be Chris Paul!! No matter how good he is he will never be Chris Paul. That pressure wouldn't be on him in Charlotte.

Just to stay in line with the thread I think Josh Smith would be a perfect compliment to Okafor. He really impressed me with his D on KG in the playoffs. His scoring is constantly improving as is the range on his jumper and we all know about his athletic ability. It should be near impossible to get a shot off in the lane over him and Okafor.

Can the Cavs sneak into the playoffs?

now i think there is. If we lose Okafor, I would be willing to offer smith a big deal. Put him in a PF and go after Sean Williams (I have made several posts about him on the other forum) and we have one ridiculously athletic front line that may give up some low post points, but still has shot blocking and quickness to really run, but also size so we dont have to much GSW disease.

If we flat out renounced Mek we'd still only have 8 million under the cap.

We would have 13 million if we renounced Okafor due to the increase in cap.

yeah spectre your numbers are fuzzy. i just recalculated, we should have around 12-13 if okafor didnt take the QO or resign with us and weaver does sign. offer smith the max or close to it, I wonder if atlanta would match... hmmm. there is no way that they would do a S&T smith for Ok...

http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages ... obcats.jsp

Swish - 12.2
Crash - 9.5
Nazr - 6
Hammer - 5
Ammo - 4.16
Felts - 4.15
May - 2.66
DJ - 2.2
Ajinça - 1.28
Duds - 1.22
Hollins - .98
Davidson - 0.71

50.06 million bucks and Weaver isn't included. The salary cap is 58.68 million, which leaves 8.62 million.

2 quick questions -- can smith play the 4? -- if we s&t okafor to nj for williams and williams, would that open up enough cash to land smith? i assume we would then ship out either felton or williams due to the glut at pg for something of good value in return. the thought of felton-richardson-wallace-smith-williams would be superior to the initial lineup heading into this season and would make the recent okafor news a blessing.

we could not S&T okafor to NJ. One they dont want salary, two it doesnt work salary wise. Let okafor walk, and we may, may be able to scrap enough to make an offer atlanta wont match

we already make a qualifying offer. We cannot just let him go right now, can we?

And with no big money throughout the league,he perfectly screwed us. Or he will do next year.

eh, we could in a way, by not matching an offer sheet from someone else. Granted, Memphis is about the only team who could make an offer now and they dont want to spend.

I am not heart set on Smith though, S&T okafor, I could see him maybe to GSW, we get al harrington and someone else. then I would still be in favor of going for sean williams and possibly marcus williams.

two underrated players who I love.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the 23rd is the last day that we can revoke a qualifying offer. After that it can be revoked, but both sides must agree to it.

The 23rd is tomorrow.

And yeah, I think we're screwed too.
