Augustin
I can't see how he is our solution at point. He appeared in college to be less of a playmaker than felton did at UNC. Now he is showing what I saw in college shoot first, shoot second, and turnover third type of play. I hated the pick when we made it and it looks worse than I thought it was.

Re: Augustin
I won't point out the irony in some people getting more upset over Augustin's lack of playmaking in a summer league, on a team where he is playing alongside very few NBA-caliber players, on which he is arguably the best offensive option, than they do with Felton's lack of playmaking in the NBA, on a team where he is playing alongside much better players, and is usually the 4th best option on offense (at best).
Oh, wait. Maybe I just did

Re: Augustin
I never said I was pleased with Feltons either. I think the key is Augustin was a worse playmaker in college than Felton yet somehow he is supposed to be better than him in the pros. Augustin is a smaller Felton in other words he is a smaller SG. If we were going to get another PG/SG we should have picked Bayless.

(1) I never said you did.
(2) Haven't we learned that what someone does in college means NOTHING in the pro's yet? If anyone should realize this by now, it should be Bobcat fans.
As well as Augustin has been scoring, he is an even better playmaker. When the team starts asking him to do more playmaking instead of scoring, everyone will see that. As I've said elsewhere, if they were asking him to score more to gauge his ability to score on the pro level, I think it's obvious he has passed that test. They should let him go back to being more of a playmaker over these final few games, and let them make his team mates better, and evaluate them and see if any are worth adding to our roster. We already know Augustin can score.

You guys are unreal.......how you survive in the real world with your narrow views and lack of knowledge of the past is crazy. DJ Augustin is a pure point guard. You guys are now getting mad at him bc he's not like Brevin Knight....he can actually shoot and score.
Go look at DJ's freshman year.......he was thought of as a great passer and pure point guard who didn't score much. Then Texas lost key players and Barnes told him that he would have to score a lot more for the team to be successful.......so he scored almost 20 a game. DJ is already better at the pick and roll, shooting, passing, finishing, and losing his defender to get in the lane. Felton can't shake his man for some reason even though he's quick. DJ Augustin will average 7 assists a game in 30 minutes this year......book it.

7 is a lot for 30 minutes from a rookie PG. Chris Paul averaged 7.8 in 36 minutes his rookie year as a starter. If we can "book" 7 assists in 30 minutes from DJ, I'd be incredibly thrilled, because in that case DJ will be on his way to being a star.

Re: Augustin
If he gets 4.75 in 20 I'll be quite pleased. This is all very premature... the big question about Augustin was not how good he was in college, but how well he'd deal with athletic defenders who are all 2-5" taller than him. Will he have trouble getting his shot off? Will he be a total sieve on defense? Those are the big questions, not his ratio of shots to pass.
Unless there's a Felton trade, Augustin's not getting thrown into the fire, which means we're probably not going to get a solid read on him for at least 2 seasons.

Re: Augustin
I think DJ is going to be good to great on the offensive end, I have little doubt of it. My biggest concern is on the other end of the court. Bigger PGs are going to have their way with him, like Rose did in the tourney. He's going to have to be a gnat out there just pestering everyone. It'll be interesting to see how he and Felton go at it in camp. Felton may not be the tallest guy out there, but he's not what I would call small either. For Hamilton, I'll add it'll also be interesting to see if Felton can keep up with DJ.

Also I have not seen better passing and he has not been a great defender....CJ was a handfull for him...

I will give you shooting and maybe pick and roll but that is it. I watched him in college and never saw playmaking. I am not being narrow in my views he is a small felton. That is what I saw in college that is what I have seen now. I think we need a play maker at point and he up till this point in his career has not been one. He has always had about a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. This is no different than felton. I am just saying I don't see why you would draft a smaller version of a player we already have and alot of people hate.

What's the difference? Neither played in the ACC, what's the point of even watching their games?

Barring injury or trade, you are completely wrong. You will be disappointed for sure. DJ will be good, but he's not going to get 30mpg average this season and he certainly won't avg 7apg either. If he was going to be able to do that he would've been drafted right after Rose (or even ahead of him).

Re: Augustin
I doubt he gets minutes to produce that many assists. He will average around 20-25 minutes a game though.
I don't know why some people are knocking him because he looks like more of scorer than a facilitator so far. This is the summer league. The rest of the team are either 2nd round draft picks or free agents that wants a contract. He is basically the 1st option on offense. You can't knock him for that.

No bias. I am a UNC fan but I don't want Felton here either. Oh and trade May for anything is fine with me. The problem is that I watched him in college and said wow he looks just like a very small SG. This is the problem most of us including me have with Felton. Can Felton improve maybe could Augustin change maybe. The deal is the anti-UNC bias here. You guys see a non-Carolina guy and say he is great and should replace a UNC boy. If he was great and would make the team better then wonderful, but he is not. I have watched Texas play both of the last two years and he is nothing special. He is a scoring point guard who makes bad decisions and turns it over way to much. We managed to draft mini-Felton.
